Enjoy a free afternoon of tango dance at the Parkway Central Library

Put on your dancing shoes for a tango-fest at the Parkway Central Library

Ever dreamed of emanating the ultra-talented ballroom dancers from Dancing with the Stars? Seize your chance to experience all things tango dance at the Parkway Central Library on Saturday, July 20.

From 12:30 p.m. to 5 p.m., Philadelphia's Argentine tango dance community, author Carolyn Merritt and the Library's Music Department will host an afternoon of tango dance performances, lessons, music and a special milonga tango dance party, all free of charge.

The festivities begin with DancePhiladelphia Argentine Tango, by co-director Lesley Mitchell, who will lead a series of pop-up tango performances throughout the library.

Then author, dancer and anthropologist Carolyn Merritt will discuss her new book, Tango Nuevo in the Montgomery Auditorium.

Afterwards, Meredith Klein, director of Philadelphia Argentine Tango School and Pablo Garcia Gomez will teach an introductory tango lesson for all ages and skill levels. The tango school pupils will also give a group demonstration and impress the crowd with their talents.

For the grand finale, there will be a fast-tempo milonga tango party in the lobby for participants to test out their newly acquired dance moves.

Learning the classic, romantic Argentine dance is an eye-opening cultural experience that will get you on the dance floor and grooving to the Latin beat. So bailamos!
