End summer on a high note in Franklin Square

Don’t get bogged down by back-to-school shopping and end-of-summer sadness. The weather’s still nice and things are still kicking over in Franklin Square (6th and Race Streets) throughout August and September.

Undersea dwellers make a trip to the park on Saturday, Aug. 15. Adventure Aquarium makes a trip across the river — along with mascot Gill — with live animal exhibits, interactive activities and more from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Later in the day, the aquatic adventure continues with a 7 p.m. screening of "Dolphin Tale."

Franklin Square brings back their occasional food truck bash on Thursday, Aug. 20, when from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. Philly's top food trucks will line the space and Frankford Hall will present a beer garden.

Spend a lazy Sunday afternoon with WXPN's Kathy O'Connell when she hosts a concert of family-friendly performances from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 30.

The stress of the workweek will melt away during a 6:30 p.m. twilight yoga session on Wednesday, Sept. 2.

What's a Labor Day celebration without a ride on the Lightning Bolt Express? Franklin Square's train will be up and running from Saturday, Sept. 5 through Monday, Sept. 7 from noon to 3 p.m. in addition to mini golf and carousel entertainment. During the holiday weekend, another movie screens: "Ghostbusters" at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 5.

You treat mom and dad to brunch on Mother's and Father's Day, so why not give Grandparents' Day the same treatment? Take Grandmom and Grandpop to an 11 a.m.-to-1 p.m. buffet brunch on Sunday, Sept. 13 and hop on the carousel — or vice versa.
