Don your dirndl and lederhosen at these Oktoberfest parties

This weekend, Munich, Germany will celebrate Oktoberfest. While we're stuck in the States, you may think we can't join in on the beer-drinking and bratwurst-munching festivities, but think again – there are great parties happening here.

This weekend, Munich, Germany will celebrate Oktoberfest. While were stuck in the States, you may think we can't join in on the beer-drinking and bratwurst-munching festivities, but think again – there are great parties happening here.

Marc Vetri's Lo Spiedo (4503 S. Broad St.) welcomes fall with a pay-as-you-go Oktoberfest Party on Friday, Sept. 17. From 4 to 8 p.m., welcome autumn with seasonal brews, sausage sandwiches, brews from Stoudt's, and live music from Polkadelphia.

If you haven't been to an Oktoberfest celebration in Philadelphia, make sure you spend your Saturday, Sept. 19, at Brauhaus Schmitz (718 South St.). The authentic German bierhall will shut down the 700 block of South Street for an all-day affair of cultural fare and entertainment. From noon to 8 p.m., the hall will be full of folks in lederhosen and dirndls enjoying Bavarian fare and food, taking part in dances, and more. If you don't have a German outfit, no worries, come party!

Frankford Hall (1210 Frankford Ave.) and Fette Sau's (1208 Frankford Ave.) Oktoberfest block party returns for a full-day of seasonal festivities on Saturday, Sept. 19. Beginning at noon, things get started with a keg tapping and a drumline welcoming performance. Following the introductory, guests can enjoy autumn-themed brews, grilled wurst sandwiches, vendors, and live music. If you intend on bringing the kids, free pony rides and face painting will be available.

Hop Angel (7980 Oxford Ave.) in Fox Chase celebrates the German folk festival with a party on Saturday, Sept. 26 and Sunday, Sept. 27. Throughout the weekend, this event will feature imported and local fall brews, Bavarian bites, and music. If you rock a dirndl or lederhosen, you get a free sausage sandwich! Things get started at 3 p.m. both days.

For a family-friendly Oktoberfest: Roxtoberfest returns on Saturday, Oct. 10 for a day full of German-themed activities for the community of Roxborough. From noon to 6 p.m., Ridge Avenue between Green Lane and Leverington Avenue will transform into mini Munich including a beer garden, games, luive music, and activities for the kids such as balloon animals, crafts, an obstacle course, and more.

Pennsylvania brewery Yuengling hosts two weekends of Oktoberfest entertainment at the Steel Stacks (101 Founders Way) on Friday, Oct. 2Sunday, Oct. 4 and Friday, Oct. 9 - Sunday, Oct. 11. Throughout the two weekends, the festival will include local brew samples, authentic Bavarian fare, vendors, and dog races. The festival hours are Fridays from 5 to 11 p.m.; Saturdays noon to 11 p.m.; Sundays noon to 8 p.m.
