For those of you who have absolutely no idea what I'm talking about, latte art is created by pouring steamed milk into a shot of espresso. A design is usually formed by that action, which can be embellished by the barista afterward. Sounds easy right? Well it may sound easy, but it is actually quite difficult. The ability to do this requires experience from the barista as well as a good espresso machine. The steamed milk and espresso both need to be in perfect condition.
Philly TNT has created this wonderful event in order to create some healthy competition and to bring local baristas together as a community. Month after month people pour into different coffee shops to compete. Each month a different location is selected to hold the event.
Last night, La Colombe in South Penn Square, was the arena. The coolest part is that anybody can enter. You don't need to be an experienced barista to compete, all you need to do is put your name down. Also, be sure to go with an empty stomach because food, beer, and of course lattes will be provided. Be sure to get there early, food and beer run out fast! Competitors must pay five dollars to enter. Spectators, you're free to watch and enjoy!
The next event will be announced sometime in August, be sure to follow Philly TNT for updates!
