Clover Market, Whiskey Rebellion, kids jazz party and more: weekend event picks 4/12-4/13

The "StrEAT Food Festival" will serve as the kick-off to Manayunk's Restaurant Week.

You worked hard all week, so it would be a shame if we let you waste your precious weekend. Here we give you a snapshot of a few of the weekend’s best events.

I’m a sucker for outdoor markets and lucky for me (and you, if you share the same sentiment as I), there are quite a few this weekend. Arcadia University in Glenside, PA is holding their spring flea market on Saturday, April 12 from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m., load up on your antique and vintage goods at Phila Flea Market all day on Saturday, April 12, kicking off at 9 a.m. at Headhouse Square and Clover Market makes its 2014 debut on Sunday, April 13 in Chestnut Hill from 10 a.m. through 5 p.m.

Manayunk’s 4th annual StrEAT Food Festival not only launches the district’s restaurant week, but also brings the best food trucks, vendors and farm stands to Manayunk’s Main Street on Saturday, April 12 starting at 11 a.m. Another food festival worth noting takes place on Sunday, April 13 at the Pennsylvania Convention Center. The Philly Farm and Food Fest highlights local farmers and locally grown products from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m.

Let’s not forget about music: local rockers The Wonder Years play the Electric Factory on Saturday, April 12, with doors opening at 6:30 p.m., British boy-banders The Wanted take the stage at the Tower Theater on Saturday, April 12 at 8 p.m., Underground Arts hosts London Grammar (also British) on Saturday, April 12 at 8 p.m. For Sunday, April 13, catch Taking Back Sunday at the Tower Theater at 7 p.m.

Don’t forget that April is Jazz Appreciation Month in Philadelphia. Bring the kids to Franklin Square Park for a jazz party full of dancing, games and fun at 11 a.m.

Runners with a taste for beer can get a tour of Yards Brewery plus a three-mile guided run through Philly on Saturday, April 12. The tour starts at 11:30 a.m.

Perhaps on Sunday, April 13 you can meander through Silver Lake Nature Center for their Sunday Strolls, beginning at 2 p.m.

Cheltenham Center for the Arts unveils its 71st annual awards painting show this Sunday, April 13 at 2 p.m. with a two-hour opening reception. See the displayed work of this year’s winning entries.

Whiskey lovers can get a sampling of over 60 whiskeys, learn how to craft the perfect whiskey cocktail and chat with some suppliers at the TLA for this year’s Whiskey Rebellion. This afternoon event, beginning at 2:30 p.m. is surely a must for Sunday, April 13.

Got all that? Now go have fun!
