Breast Cancer Awareness happenings in Philadelphia

Mad River Manayunk (4100 Main St.) hosts the 2014 BreastFest in collaboration with the Tyanna Foundation, supported by Fox Chase Cancer Center on Saturday, Oct. 11 at 3 p.m. for a 5-hour event featuring an open bar, all you can eat buffet, and live music. Tickets are $45 and all proceeds benefit the Breast Evaluation Center at Fox Chase Cancer Center

On Tuesday, Oct. 14 the Philadelphia Flyers support Breast Cancer awareness month as they take on the Anaheim Ducks at the Wells Fargo Center (3601 S. Broad St.) at 7 p.m. With a purchase of a ticket for $50, fans will get to catch the game and support the Linda Creed Breast Cancer Organization Fund, a group that fights breast cancer with community education and support for those who need it. Make your exercise count for a good cause on Saturday, Oct. 18 as the American Cancer Society honors the survivors and fighters who suffered from breast cancer during Making Strides, a non-competitive 5K walk at West Fairmount Park (4231 Avenue of the Republic Ave.) beginning at 7:30 a.m.

The 2014 Butterfly Ball returns on Saturday, Oct. 18 at the Loews Hotel (1200 Market St.) at 6:30 p.m. for its annual black-tie gala event including cocktails, dinner, a silent auction, dancing, and a presentation of this year's Going Beyond Award honoring Lu Ann Cahn, Denise Portner, Robin Bender Stevens and Margaret Zuccotti, four women diagnosed with breast cancer who have used their personal experiences to help others struggling with cancer.

Attention young professionals: Dance the night away in style while supporting the fight against cancer on Saturday, Oct. 18 at the Vie Ballroom (600 N. Broad St.) during a Pink Thai Ball Party. Beginning at 9 p.m. take part in an exclusive party including an open bar, music by Mix 106.9's DJ Robbie Rob, get memorable photos from Shutterbooth, take your chances on special prizes during a Thai Tricky Raffle, and much more. Business casual is required. Tickets are $100 and all proceeds benefit the Susan G. Komen Philadelphia Organization, a network of activists who strive against breast cancer.

On Thursday, Oct. 23 the Fifth Annual Rock the Ribbon affair returns to Philadelphia for a "Black and White" themed gala filled with dancing, entertainment, live music, an open bar, and food stations to give your hunger a fix. Proceeds from the event go toward Breastcancer.org, a nonprofit organization providing families with the latest research information about this disease. The event kicks off at 7 p.m. and is located at Vie Ballroom (600 N. Broad St.)

Throughout the month of October, the Philadelphia Premium Outlets (18 W. Lightcap Rd.) in Limerick, Pa. are offering shoppers a coupon booklet including 25 percent off one purchase in each store when they donate $10 toward the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.

The classic game of chance is turning pink every Monday in October as the Irish Pol (45 S. 3rd St.) hosts Boobie Bingo. Beginning at 8 p.m., play bingo, have a beer, and realize that 100 percent of the proceeds goes toward the Ellen Stein Jacoby Fund of Fox Chase Cancer Center, an organization that supports research examining hereditary and non-hereditary factors that influence one's chance in developing breast cancer.

If you're in the mood for some Southern-inspired meals, the Twisted Tail (509 S. 2nd St.) is quite the spot to dine at. Through the month of October, $1 from every entrée purchased will be donated to the Linda Creed Breast Cancer Organization.
