Best Coast & Wavves prove that summer is forever

With Philadelphia covered in snow and ice, I was in need of some serious summer vibes. A large crowd packed into the warm Starlight Ballroom for the "Summer Is Forever Tour". The night featured the beautiful Cali sounds of No Joy, Wavves, and Best Coast.

With Philadelphia covered in snow and ice, I was in need of some serious summer vibes. A large crowd packed into the warm Starlight Ballroom for the "Summer Is Forever Tour". The night featured the beautiful Cali sounds of No Joy, Wavves, and Best Coast.

Kick-starting the crowd into a jumping frenzy, a beach ball riot broke out as Wavves struck up their first song of the night. Hands were being thrown wildly into the air making it clear that the majority of the crowd were solely here to see Nathan Williams and company. Starting off playing a pair of songs from their noisier self-titled first album, the night was a compromise between old and new fans. Later pulling from the poppier "King of the Beach" album, kids were convulsing left and right. This performance was so hot, the mirrors in the Starlight Ballroom were dripping with perspiration. The bandmates wildly jumped around the stage and hair was thrashing all over the place. It was a wild and energetic show from the Wavves bros and I am an even bigger fan than I was before.

It was time for the main course, and at this point a third of the room had cleared out after Wavves aggressive performance. They knew Best Coast was about to turn the vibes way down. Bethany Cosentino's songs are pulled directly from a 16 year olds diary but have the crooning melodies of a Beach Boys song. Lit by soft purple lights, she put everyone into a dreamy haze and played almost her entire "Crazy For You" album. I was surprised how well her vocals translated live, and her overall stage presence was captivating and sweet. It was hard for the crowd not to fall in love with her.

No Joy were exctly like 90's Seattle rock band you'd hear in the background of your favorite teen romantic comedy. Fronted by two rad-tastic ladies with grown out surfer blonde hair, these chicks put on a fairly energetic lo-fi rock show. I absolutely loved it.
