Video: Union DP target Vincent Nogueira scores in possible Sochaux finale

With the Union trying to wrap up the signing of Sochaux midfielder Vincent Nogueira, it's possible that Saturday was his last game in Ligue 1. If so, he had quite a sendoff.

A belated correction: Jordan Ayew wasn't on Ghana's 2010 World Cup team. I thought he was. Apologies.

With the Union trying to wrap up the signing of Sochaux midfielder Vincent Nogueira, it's possible that Saturday was his last game in Ligue 1.

If so, he had quite a sendoff.

The 26-year-old midfielder scored a stoppage-time equalizer with what was almost literally the last kick of the game, giving les Lionceaux a 1-1 tie at Ajaccio.

Nogueira played all 90 minutes Saturday. He was based mainly at the top of a midfield triangle in Sochaux's 4-2-3-1 formation, occasionally switching with right winger Jordan Ayew. They were by far the most dangerous players on the field for Sochaux.

Although the goal will get Nogueira the headlines, his best moment came from a play on which he didn't score. Just before halftime, he trapped the ball near the top of the 18-yard box, spun and cracked a first-time volley off the crossbar. Ajaccio goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa had no chance at it, and was lucky to be bailed out.

(Ochoa's name might also ring a bell, as he's been part of Mexico's national team for almost a decade.)

You can watch highlights from the game below. Nogueira's volley is at the 2:37 mark, and the goal is at 5:09. There's a standalone clip of the goal here. I'd embed it but Ligue 1 doesn't allow that for its YouTube posts.
