Union sign Arrieta; is Carlos Ruiz next?

It hasn't been officially announced by the team yet - it will be later tonight - but word is in that the Union have signed defender Cristian Arrieta of the Puerto Rico Islanders.

Here's Arrieta's profile from the Islanders' website. It seems pretty likely that he'll get major minutes this weekend and beyond.

There's also word from Ives Galarcep that the Union are looking rather seriously at Guatemalan forward Carlos Ruiz. "El Pescadito" scored the game-winning goal for Los Angeles in the 2002 MLS Cup and was the league's most valuable player that season. He faded a bit after that, but has been playing well lately for Mexican club Puebla.

Ruiz would provide a big boost to the Union's attack. But he would come with one big caveat: a reputation for diving. Frequently, it should be said.

Granted, one's perpective on diving tends to be skewed by whether the offender plays for your team or the opponent. But given Sidney Crosby's reputation in this city, I wonder how Ruiz would go over with the fan base.
