Union to start 2017 season at Vancouver; home opener March 11 vs. Toronto

Major League Soccer announced 2017 home openers for the league's 22 clubs on Wednesday.

The Union will open their eighth Major League Soccer season on Sunday, March 5 at Vancouver against the Whitecaps at 9:30 p.m.

The home opener will be Saturday, March 11 against defending Eastern Conference champion Toronto FC at 4:30. Toronto eliminated the Union in the opening playoff game for both teams this past season.

MLS announced the home opener for each team Wednesday.

The season will kick off March 3 when the expansion Minnesota United visit the Portland Timbers. Once again, each team will play 34 games.​

9:30 p.m.: Portland Timbers vs. Minnesota United FC (Providence Park)

Saturday, March 4, 2017

2 p.m.: Columbus Crew vs. Chicago Fire
4 p.m.: Los Angeles Galaxy vs. FC Dallas
4:30 p.m.: Real Salt Lake vs. Toronto FC
6 p.m.: Colorado Rapids vs. New England Revolution
7 p.m.: D.C. United vs. Sporting Kansas City
8:30 p.m.: Houston Dynamo vs. Seattle Sounders
10 p.m.: San Jose Earthquakes vs. Montreal Impact (Avaya Stadium)

5 p.m.: Orlando City vs. New York City FC
7 p.m.: Atlanta United vs. New York Red Bulls
9:30 p.m.: Vancouver Whitecaps vs. Union

Orlando's game will be the first at its new stadium. Atlanta's game will be played at Georgia Tech's Bobby Dodd Stadium, the club's temporary home until Mercedes-Benz Stadium - shared by the United and the NFL's Falcons - opens later in the year.

Montreal's game will be at Olympic Stadium.
