U.S. women's national team to play at PPL Park

The U.S. Soccer Federation announced Monday afternoon that the women's national team will play China at PPL Park on October 6 at 7 p.m. It will be the final match before the CONCACAF qualifying tournament for next summer's World Cup, and it will be broadcast on ESPN2.

Ticket details have not yet been announced. As of now, it is slated to be the first ever professional women's soccer game at PPL Park. However, if the Independence and Union can figure out a way to get the Independence's Women's Professional Soccer playoff game to Chester, that game will come first.

If the Independence are able to hold on to second place, the game would be either September 22 or 23. If they finish third, the game would be on September 19.

The U.S.-China game will be one of two for Pia Sundhage's squad. The same teams will meet on October 2 at the new Kennesaw State University Soccer Stadium outside Atlanta, home to the Atlanta Beat of WPS.

It's a safe bet that there will be plenty of Independence players on the U.S. roster. Amy Rodriguez, Lori Lindsey and Heather Mitts have all played for the national team this year, and I would not be surprised if Allison Falk gets a look at some point before next summer.

Other U.S. players with ties to our area include Delran. N.J., native Carli Lloyd; Vineland, N.J., native Jillian Loyden; and Gilbertsville, Pa., native Nicole Barnhart.
