Rank and File: Union vs. Toronto FC

A little something to tide you over until the Manchester United game kicks off. I'll be hosting a live chat starting near the 7:30 p.m. kickoff, so join me if you aren't going to the game.

Goalkeeper

Chris Seitz: 5.25

Defenders

Cristian Arrieta: 4.50
- "Stop me if you've heard this before: Arrieta has skills, but his weekly lapses in concentration are killing this team." (Nathan M.)
- "Left out to dry by Miglioranzi's back pass early in the game. Bonus points for taking the card late in the second half, similar to what Harvey should have done last week.* Good to see we are learning." (Dan Gontkof)

* - A reference to the San Jose game, in which Danny Califf was the last guy who could stop Arturo Alvarez from scoring but didn't tackle him. It would have been a straight red, as we all know, but the argument is that you do what you have to do to prevent the goal from being scored.

Danny Califf: 7.00
- "This was Califf's best game of the season.  He more or less singlehandedly saved the day following Arrieta's turnover." (Nathan M.)

Jordan Harvey: 5.50

Michael Orozco Fiscal: 6.13
- "I still do not feel completely comfortable with his defense, but he certainly got involved in the offense.  Not only the goal, but his cross led to the hand ball." (Chris Lane)

Midfielders

Fred: 5.25

Andrew Jacobson: 4.60

Stefani Miglioranzi: 5.38

Amobi Okugo: 5.50
- "Poor marking on his part contributed to the Toronto goal." (Dan Gontkof)

Nick Zimmerman: 4.20

Forwards

Sebastien Le Toux: 7.63
- "Not only does his work rate impress, but his touch and vision are always creative and very often effective.  Vive Le Toux!" (Chris Lane)

Jack McInerney: 4.75
- "Great hustle led to the PK.  Needs to improve ability to get shots off.  Puts himself in great positions, but takes too long teeing it up." (Dan Gontkof)

Alejandro Moreno: 5.25

Danny Mwanga: 5.29
- "Needs serious work on his first touch and vision.  He has the physical tools, but you compare his effectiveness and ability to make others around him better to that of Fred or Moreno and he is light years away."

An editorial comment from me on this one: I'm not sure I'd call the work necessary "serious," but I agree that at times the first touch - and with it, an instinct to shoot quickly when open - aren't quite there yet. Both of those things will come with time, though.
