Rank and File: Union at Real Salt Lake

I said my peace yesterday, and now it's your turn.

Before we get to this week's ratings, we have the 30-man roster for the U.S. national team's pre-World Cup training camp. The big news is that Charlie Davies did not make the cut. I'm not surprised - Sochaux said he has not been given full medical clearance yet, and I was never convinced he'd be back at full strength by now.

And now we're hearing that the U.S. Soccer Federation's medical staff didn't think he was ready either. So there.

Other notable omissions include Freddy Adu and Conor Casey, though Adu is no surprise. Casey might be, as he scored a few goals for the U.S. in World Cup qualifying. It's also somewhat of a surprise that only three goalkeepers were called in, but then again, that position is pretty well solidified.

Among the notable inclusions are forwards Edson Buddle and Herculez Gomez. They have been lighting up MLS and the Mexican League, respectively, in recent weeks. Think they make it to South Africa?

Here's the 30-man list. It has to be cut down to 23 by June 1. Players will begin reporting to training camp, which will be held at Princeton University, on Saturday. The first full session will be held next Monday. I hope to make it up there at least once during the week; stay tuned.

In case you haven't heard yet, the Union announced this morning that they will host Celtic at PPL Park on July 14 at 8 p.m. The Valencia game is off the books completely, as the club canceled its U.S. tour.

It's a good get for the Union, if you ask me. Celtic might be based in Glasgow, but they're a worldwide club in terms of reputation - and they've got plenty of fans here in Philadelphia.

You might recall that Celtic played Manchester United at Lincoln Financial Field. 55,421 fans attended the game.

For those of you who are new to the sport, the easiest way to explain it is that Celtic's support is rooted in Glasgow's Catholic population. Because of those ties, Celtic also built up a fan base in Ireland, and from there expanded beyond to take in large portions of the Scottish and Irish expatriate population in America.

The game will be Game A in season ticket packages. Individual game tickets details will be announced later this month.

Not that this really matters, but given that July 14 is Bastille Day, wouldn't it have been cool to get a French club in the house? Or maybe that's when Robert Pires will make his debut. Just kidding...

Here's your verdict on the Real Salt Lake game. As you'd expect, it's full of cheer and optimism.

Goalkeeper

Chris Seitz: 3.33
- "Looked really bad on the free kick that became the second goal. Roger Torres ducked, but it was in his hands and he dropped it." (Ed Fagan)

Defenders

Cristian Arrieta: 2.44
- "Was obviously the defender who drew the short straw to hit the ill-advised back pass this week." (Bryan James)
- "Can we just make a rule that no Union player is allowed to make a back pass from now on?" (Nathan Marinoff)

Danny Califf: 4.00
- "He was caught out of position on the headed third goal and was too late to do anything to stop it. That said, I guess we should be glad he played the full 90 without a card." (Ed Fagan)

Jordan Harvey: 4.78
- "Arguably the most reliable and steady back so far this year. His perfectly-timed slide tackle almost bailed out Arrieta." (Jeff Prigge)

Michael Orozco: 4.22
- "He was also torched on the third goal, but played the full 90 without many glaring mistakes." (Ed Fagan)

Midfielders

Fred: 4.67
- "Fred and Roger Torres had some nice moves, but Kyle Beckerman pushed them off the ball almost every time." (Ethan Gomberg)

Andrew Jacobson: 4.56

Kyle Nakazawa: 5.23
- "Had some strong free kicks, looks comfortable out there compared to our other rookies. Hopefully he gets some more playing time." (Jeff Prigge)

Shea Salinas: 4.86
- "I liked what I saw from Salinas and Nakazawa, but I don't think they are what is going to right this ship." (Ethan Gomberg)

Roger Torres: 3.78
- "RSL looked like they were trying to take him out of the game and succeeded at that." (Ed Fagan)

Nick Zimmerman: 4.20

Forwards

Jack McInerney: 4.11

Alejandro Moreno: 4.78
- "Seems to give 110 percent each time out, whether he's on his own or partnered with someone up top." (Jeff Prigge)

Danny Mwanga: 3.50
- "McInereny and Mwanga looked lost." (Ethan Gomberg)
