Philadelphia Union midfielder Roger Torres suffers MCL sprain
Union midfielder Roger Torres has been ruled out of Saturday's game against the Columbus Crew with a sprained medial collateral ligament in his left knee.
UPDATE: The Union finally announced Wednesday morning that Torres will be out 8-10 weeks.
Union midfielder Roger Torres has been ruled out of Saturday's game against the Columbus Crew with a sprained medial collateral ligament in his left knee.
The news came out of Major League Soccer's latest injury report release, not from the Union itself.
The 20-year-old Colombian suffered the injury during Monday's Reserve League match against the New England Revolution. You can see a still image of the play in which Torres was hurt here.
Torres tweeted this yesterday after the reserve game, in which he started as a playmaking midfielder: "I'm good thank you. tomorrow I have some news for you guys I really appreciate your concern."
Upon seeing that, I asked a Union spokesperson for an explanation, as I was not able to attend the game. I was told that details of the injury would be published in the league injury report.
Now that the report has been published, I have asked the Union for a statement regarding the length of time that they expect Torres to be out of action. I will update this post when I hear from the team.
The other major items from the injury report are:
- Union midfielder Danny Califf is listed as probable due to a left hamstring strain.
- Crew defender Julius James is listed as out due to an unspecified illness.
- Crew dedender Carlos Mendes is listed as questionable due to a right hamstring strain.
- Crew midfielder Danny O'Rourke is listed as questionable due to a left ankle sprain.
The next injury report release will be published Friday.
