Mexico's Club América, Puebla to meet at Talen Energy Stadium on July 8

For the first time in its history, the Union's Talen Energy Stadium will play host to a friendly game between two clubs without the Union on the field.

Mexican powerhouse Club América will stop in Chester on July 8 to play fellow Mexican club Puebla as part of its preseason summer travels.

América, based at Mexico City's legendary Azteca Stadium, is the country's equivalent of the Yankees. Las Águilas' trophy case includes 12 Mexican league championships, the most of any club, and seven CONCACAF titles dating to 1977.

(Yes, their nickname in Spanish is the Eagles; yes, the comparison with the Eagles up the road writes itself.)

Their roster includes a trio of Mexican national team stalwarts: goalkeeper Moisés Muñoz, defender Paul Aguilar and forward Oribe Peralta. You might also have heard of midfielders Rubens Sambueza and Darwin Quintero, who've been among Liga mX's most prominent attacking talents for some time now. Further down the squad, there's former U.S. national team centerback Ventura Alvarado.

Puebla's roster doesn't have such recognizable names, but it will come to town with a particular asset in its favor. Quite a bit of the Mexican immigrant population in Philadelphia came here from the Puebla region. Indeed, the press release from the game's promoter, Los Angeles-based Primetime Sports, said that's one of the reasons the game is coming here.

Tickets will start at $40. The full range of prices hasn't been announced yet. Sales will open for Union season-ticket holders at 10 a.m. Wednesday and to the general public at 10 a.m. Friday. Buy through the Union's website, AXS.com or Ticketon.com, by phone at 1-800-668-8080, or at the Talen Energy Stadium box office.
