Live MLS preseason video: Chicago Fire vs. Stabæk

It's been 17 years since Bob Bradley led the Chicago Fire to a MLS Cup and U.S. Open Cup double in what was not just the club's inaugural season, but also his first ever season as a head coach at the professional level.

There have been plenty of ways to measure Bradley's legendary career since then, and I'm sure many of you know a lot about them. You certainly are well aware of his work with the U.S. and Egyptian national teams, and if your memory is long enough, you might recall his 12-year tenure as the head men's soccer coach at Princeton.

Since early last year, Bradley has been in charge of Norwegian club Stabæk. His time there has had been well-documented in its own right, especially given the proliferation of ways to watch European leagues from American soil these days.

Although Bradley has coached against former employers before - he did, after all, manage the MetroStars and Chivas USA after leaving Chicago - it has been a while since his last opportunity. Tonight he'll do so half a world away from his office. Stabæk and the Fire kick off the Simple Invitational, a preseason tournament held at Providence Park in Portland. The Timbers and Vancouver Whitecaps are the other teams participating.

Kickoff is set for 5:30 p.m. Eastern. Yes, it's a preseason game for Chicago, and it comes with the usual caveats. But I would hope that at least the pregame interactions on the sidelines will be worth watching.
