Games to Watch: U.S. U-20s in trouble, Liga MX, England's Championship

One of this weekend's marquee matches in Mexico's Liga MX features quite a few Americans.

Club América at Tijuana

10:25 p.m. Friday (ESPN Deportes, Azteca America, WZPA-33.7)

One of this weekend's marquee matches in Mexico's Liga MX features quite a few Americans. Tijuana's squad includes U.S. national team veterans Joe Corona and Greg Garza. América, the reigning Mexican champions, has a potential rising star in Ventura Alvarado, a 22-year-old Phoenix native.

Nottingham Forest at Derby County

7:10 a.m. Saturday (beIN Sports)

When you think of English teams that have played in the European Cup (now known as the UEFA Champions League), you probably think of teams like Manchester United and Liverpool. In the 1970s, though, both of these teams stood in the spotlight - especially Forest, which won back-to-back titles in 1979 and 1980.

These days, both clubs play in England's second-tier Championship, with dreams of returning to the top flight. Derby is led by striker Chris Martin, who has scored 15 goals this season. Among the Forest players tasked with stopping him will be American defender Eric Lichaj.

Southampton at Newcastle United

12:30 p.m. Saturday (NBC10, mun2)

Southampton proved it belonged among England's elite last weekend when Dusan Tadic led the way to the club's first ever win at Manchester United. Now the Saints march into St. James' Park to face Papiss Cissé, Ayoze Pérez and a Newcastle squad that hast lost just two of its 10 Premier League home games this season.

Arsenal at Manchester City

11:00 a.m. Sunday (NBCSN, Telemundo)

Manchester City has been in the news for all the wrong reasons lately. This week, the club was forced to admit that its "loan" acquisition of Frank Lampard after he "signed" a contract with Major League Soccer's New York City FC was a deceit, if not an outright lie. Lampard never signed with New York - owned by the same Abu Dhabi-based conglomerate - and was instead under contract in Manchester.

Having finally confessed, now Lampard and company can return attention to the field for a clash of Premier League titans. Arsenal's hopes of an upset may lie with playmaker Mesut Özil, who's back from a long-term knee injury.

United States under-20 men vs. Jamaica

8:00 p.m. Sunday (Fox Sports 2, Univision Deportes)

The U.S. under-20 team's World Cup qualifying campaign got off to a disastrous start: a 1-1 tie with Guatemala followed by a 1-0 loss to Panama. A squad led by Borussia Dortmund prospect Junior Flores and Fulham's Emerson Hyndman was expected to do better.

Wednesday's 8-0 rout of lowly Aruba helped restore confidence, but now the Americans face Jamaica on its home turf. If the U.S. is to have any hope of finishing first in its group and getting an automatic World Cup berth - or even finishing in a playoff spot - the team must keep winning.
