Games to Watch: MLS conference semifinals, European derbies

Updated Sunday morning because two of the players I mentioned in Schalke-Dortmund aren't playing. Schalke's Johannes Geis is suspended and Marco Reus is injured. Whoops.

Schalke 04 at Borussia Dortmund

9:30 a.m. Sunday (Fox Sports 1, Fox Deportes)

The Bundesliga's most famous rivalry gets its biggest spotlight ever in the United States, and it's well-deserved. Dortmund's electric atmosphere at the 81,000-seat Signal Iduna Park will be a great backdrop for a matchup that captivates fans in Germany's heartland and beyond. Klaas-Jan Huntelaar leads Schalke against a high-flying Dortmund attack that features Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Shinji Kagawa.

Tottenham Hotspur at Arsenal

11:00 a.m. Sunday (NBCSN, Telemundo)

The Premier League's "North London derby" needs little introduction, especially among the two teams' big fan bases in Philadelphia. Head over to the soccer bars east of Rittenhouse Square on Sunday morning and you'll find them jammed with jerseys of Arsenal's Mesut Özil and Alexis Sánchez and Tottenham's Harry Kane and Christian Eriksen. All four men are likely to play big roles as the Gunners try to remain in a tie for first place.

D.C. United at New York Red Bulls

3:00 p.m. Sunday

ESPN and TSN Go: Jon Champion and Alejandro Moreno
ESPN Deportes: Richard Mendez and Giovanni Savarese

For the second straight weekend, Major League Soccer offers a quadrupleheader of conference semifinal playoff games. This time, the matchups are second legs of the home-and-away, total goals series.

The slate's first contest is the 84th all-time edition of Major League Soccer's most-played series. New York comes home with a 1-0 lead thanks to a goal created by two of its dominant midfielders, as Dax McCarty headed in Sacha Kljestan's second half free kick. D.C. failed to register even one shot on goal in the first leg, and will need a performance from forward Fabián Espíndola to overturn the deficit.

Montreal Impact at Columbus Crew

5:00 p.m. Sunday

ESPN: Adrian Healey and Taylor Twellman call the game: Mónica González reports from the sideline
ESPN Deportes: Richard Mendez and Giovani Savarese
TSN1: Vic Rauter and Greg Sutton call the game; Kristian Jack reports from the sideline
RDS: Claudine Douville and Jean Gounelle call the game; Patrick Friolet reports from the sideline; Michel Y. Lacroix hosts studio coverage with Olivier Brett and Patrick Leduc

The spotlight will once again shine on each team's lethal striker - Montreal's Didier Drogba and Columbus' Kei Kamara - but the Impact has a 2-1 lead because of goals from veteran midfielders Patrice Bernier and Johan Venegas. Their savvy will be required to help the visitors stay disciplined as Columbus pushes to come from behind.

Seattle Sounders at FC Dallas

7:30 p.m. Sunday

Fox Sports 1 and TSN1: John Strong and Alexi Lalas call the game; Julie Stewart-Binks reports from the sideline; Rob Stone hosts studio coverage of the network's doubleheader with Eric Wynalda, Brian McBride and special guest Bruce Arena
Fox Deportes: John Laguna and Alvaro Izquierdo

A clash of styles between Seattle's stars and Dallas' youth makes this the most compelling of the four conference semifinal series. As the scene shifts to Texas, Clint Dempsey's Sounders hold a 2-1 lead. But if Fabián Castillo and Dallas can score first, that away goal - which serves as the first tiebreaker in the series - will provide the home team huge momentum.

Portland Timbers at Vancouver Whitecaps

10:00 p.m. Sunday

Fox Sports 1: J.P. Dellacamera, Brad Friedel and Brian Dunseth
Fox Deportes: Troy Santiago and Claudio Suárez
TSN1: Luke Wileman and Jason deVos call the game; Perry Solkowski reports from the sideline
RDS2: Claudine Douville and Jean Gounelle call the game; François-Étienne Corbin hosts studio coverage with Patrick Leduc

Cap off the night with a Cascadian rivalry that blends decades of history with modern flair. Vancouver held Portland's Darlington Nagbe and Fanendo Adi at bay in the first leg, which ended in a scoreless tie. So the Whitecaps have the advantage, and will only grow it if playmaker Pedro Morales is healthy enough to take the field. But Portland won't be scared of going into BC Place, having only lost once there since the two teams joined MLS together in 2011.
