Games to Watch: Fox's Bundesliga debut, U.S. women return to action

Hamburg SV at Bayern Munich

2 p.m. Friday (WXTF 29.2, Fox Sports 2, Fox Deportes and YouTube)

After many years outside the U.S. television mainstream, Germany's Bundesliga finally arrives on the big stage this season. The opening kickoff game features Bayern's cavalry of superstars: Arjen Robben, Franck Ribéry, Robert Lewandowski, Manuel Neuer, Thomas Müller, Mario Götze and new signing Arturo Vidal.

Hamburg's squad includes young midfielder Lewis Holtby and veteran forward Ivica Olić.

For those who don't get Fox Sports 2 or Fox Deportes, here's how to find WXTF 29.2 in the Philadelphia region: channel 243 on Comcast, 469 on Verizon FiOS, 43 on RCN, and 29-2 on Dish and DirecTV.

The YouTube stream will be free of charge. It's a one-time thing special bonus for the first game of the season.

Arsenal at Crystal Palace

8:30 a.m. Sunday (NBCSN)

After being upset at home last weekend by West Ham, 2-0, Arsenal heads across London to face another local rival. Palace will be flying high thanks to new signing Yohan Cabaye, who led the Eagles to a 3-1 win at Norwich. The Gunners need top striker Olivier Giroud to score – but more importantly, they need goalkeeper Peter Cech to not let in the kind of soft goals he allowed last weekend.

Chelsea at Manchester City

11:00 a.m. Sunday (NBCSN, Telemundo)

It's a rare treat for the last two English Premier League champions to meet in just the second week of the season. Yaya Touré leads Man City against Eden Hazard, Diego Costa and a Chelsea squad that was held to a 2-2 draw at home by underdog Swansea City last weekend.

Costa Rica at United States women

1:30 p.m. Sunday (Fox Sports 1)

Carli Lloyd, Megan Rapinoe and the rest of the World Cup champs return to the field for the first time since raising the trophy in Canada last month. Over 40,000 fans will be at Pittsburgh's Heinz Field to watch the Americans play the first of a two-game series against Shirley Cruz and the Ticos, who made their World Cup debut this summer.

Orlando City at Seattle Sounders

5:00 p.m. Sunday (ESPN2, ESPN Deportes)

Seattle opened its big checkbook in a big way this week over the last few days, signing Paraguay national team striker Nelson Valdez and Panama defender Roman Torres. The Sounders need to stop a losing streak that's now at five straight games. More than anything, though, they need star scorers Clint Dempsey and Obafemi Martins to be healthy again – especially with Kaká across the field this weekend.
