Agudelo makes history, Messi makes magic

In case you haven't seen them yet, there were some great goals scored today around the wide world of international soccer.

One came in the United States' win over South Africa in Cape Town, an impressive performance by a young and experimental American squad. It was a lively game, but it took until the 85th minute for a goal to be scored. Mikkel Diskerud played a nifty chip to 17-year-old Juan Agudelo, who controlled the ball and shot it into the net off the crossbar.

Agudelo became the youngest player to score a goal for the U.S. in the modern era, and the first product of the U.S. Soccer Federation's development academy to win a cap with the senior national team.

The other great goal was scored by Lionel Messi in second-half stopppage time of Argentina's win over Brazil. That game also finished 1-0. Not that anyone needed reminding of Messi's fantastic skills, but it was especially nice to see a goal like that after 90 rather uninspiring minutes of soccer. We expect more from teams like that, don't we?
