Philadelphia Union manager Peter Nowak suspended and fined for role in fracas in Chivas USA game

Major League Soccer announced Thursday evening that Philadelphia Union manager Peter Nowak has been suspended for a total of two games and fined $5,000 for his role in a scuffle that broke out on the field late in the second half of this past Saturday's 1-0 win at Chivas USA.

Nowak entered the field of play during the incident, which caused the referee to eject him from the game. The ejection triggered an automatic one-game suspension, and MLS added an additional game to the suspension.

The Union will thus be without their head coach for Saturday's home game against San Jose, and the game Saturday, May 5 at Seattle.

The terms of Nowak's suspension are as follows:

A suspended coach is not permitted to enter the stadium tunnel area, Team Locker Room or field level until after conclusion of the game, at which point he may enter the Team Locker Room. He may not sit in the Press Box or grandstands. A suspended coach also is not permitted to be in communication with his Team during the course of the game.

In addition to the punishment handed down to Nowak, the Union as an organization were fined $5,000. Chivas USA were fined $2,500, and manager Robin Fraser was fined $500.
