Wrestling legend "Mad Dog" Vachon dies at age 84

Maurice "Mad Dog" Vachon, a legend on the Canadian and American wrestling scene for decades, died Thursday at his home in Nebraska, according to a report from the Montreal Gazette (The Montreal Gazette's story has a great video included with the story. I suggest you give it a look.). Vachon was 84.

Vachon was born Ville Ermard on Sept. 14, 1929 as one of 13 children. Two of Vachon's siblings, Paul "The Butcher" Vachon and Vivian Vachon joined him in the wrestling business and helped make a name for the family across Canada and the United States.

Vachon's stepdaughter, Luna, also joined the business and even mad her way all the way up to the World Wrestling Federation, now World Wrestling Entertainment during the 1990s. She died in 2010.

Vachon earned the nickname "Mad Dog" because of his stature, gravely voice and intense nature in the ring. Vachon stood a mere 5 feet 7 inches, but was a stout 231 pounds during his peak years.

Vachon was inducted into a number of wrestling Hall of Fames after his career ended, including the WWE one in April of 2010. He also represented the Canadian Olympic team in 1948.

His wife, Kathie, and many siblings, including Paul, survive him.
