WWE's John Cena to host 2016 ESPYs

Fifteen-time WWE world heavyweight champion John Cena will host the 2016 ESPYs on July 13, ESPN announced Thursday.

Cena is just the third athlete to host the awards show, joining LeBron James (who co-hosted with Jimmy Kimmel in 2007) and Lance Armstrong (2006).

"I'm still trying to conceptualize it," Cena told ESPN.com of his plans for the show. "This all just happened a couple of days ago. I really don't know yet."

Cena has been in front of crowds of almost 100,000 on multiple occasions with millions watching at home on television, but conceded that he will have some nerves when hosting the 24th edition of ESPN's awards show.

"They asked, and of course I said yes," Cena said. "It goes without saying it's a tremendous honor. The prestige of the show grows every year. It's unbelievable.

"I obviously accepted, but it doesn't go without its share of nerves. I just want to do the show justice. I'm going to do my due diligence, and hopefully we can have a great show."

The ESPYs will not be Cena's first foray into television program hosting. He has hosted NBC's Today Show several times and hosts American Grit on Fox. On top of that, he has appeared on multiple feature films, including Trainwreck.

Despite his mainstream attention increasing, Cena told ESPN that he has no intention of leaving wrestling anytime soon.

"I'm going to be wrestling for as long as I can," he said. "It's something I'm very passionate about and something that I love."

Cena is scheduled to return to WWE television May 30.
