WWE lacking creativity with Bray Wyatt character

The Bray Wyatt character is on television on a weekly basis in a featured spot.

He's one of the more recognizable superstars on the WWE roster.

He has arguably the most different presentation in all of professional wrestling.

He's merely weeks removed from a WrestleMania match with The Undertaker, which is as big of an honor as any in the sport.

Despite all  that Wyatt has going for him, there still seems to be something missing from the character: a lack of momentum.

In my eyes, it's because of a severe lack of creativity.

Think about what Wyatt has done in recent months. He has spent most of his time standing in a dark, smoke-filled room cutting cryptic promos. The scenery is redundant, and so is the content.

How many times has Wyatt referred to himself as the "new face of fear"? Countless. Then he turns around and loses to The Undertaker in relatively uneventful fashion.

And what does he do after the loss? Pretends the loss never happened and goes right back to referring to himself as the "new face of fear." How scary can someone be when he doesn't do anything that's actually scary? Right now, Wyatt is all talk and no action, which is not the desired effect of a monstrous heel.

Talking in a scary manner isn't necessarily going to cut it. He has to actually do something. What little he's actually done wasn't all that memorable, either.

He emulated The Undertaker's entrance. A couple of weeks later, he set a casket on fire. Those weren't necessarily the most impactful things in the world. Sure, those events might look good in a video package, but they will be largely forgotten in a matter of days.

Winning matches isn't going to cut it, either. We've seen him earn pinfall victories over the likes of Daniel Bryan and Dean Ambrose, and neither victoy helped him in the long run.

The solution is that he actually has to do things. He has to make decisions. He has to have motives and incentives. He has to interact with other members of the roster. Anything, something, will suffice at this point. All of it will be better than seeing him in that dark room again.

I'm not attempting to tear down Wyatt the performer. I think he's doing the best he can with the material he is given. The problem is with the people giving him the material.

The WWE creative team is supposedly made up of about two-dozen writers from all walks of entertainment, but the one area the team has come up short in when it comes to Wyatt is … creativity. Where are the impactful angles for Wyatt to sink his teeth into? Where are the captivating stories? A better question is, where is the creativity?

During his feuds with John Cena, Chris Jericho, Ambrose and The Undertaker, he simply targeted other wrestlers and had matches with them. There was no real rhyme or reason. It was just completely random.

Now, you could make the case that randomly targeting people is what makes the character unique. I don't think that's the case. I think it's an escape latch for not coming up with something creative.

Part of creating a captivating character is giving it rhyme and reason, giving it incentives and motives. Wyatt doesn't have any. And it's because the creative team hasn't come up with any.

Maybe it's not the creative team's fault. Maybe the team is chock full of ideas that simply never see the light of day. Regardless of the reasoning, it's not doing Wyatt any favors.

No one is afraid of this new face of fear. We're all just waiting for him to do something. Until then, he's merely just another face.
