WWE announces WrestleMania 29 generated more than $100 million

WWE announced via a press release that WrestleMania 29 at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J. generated more than $100 million in economic for the host city.

According to the release, it marks the second year in a row that WrestleMania has generated more than $100 million for the host and the event has generated more than $400 million over the past six years.

Enigma Research Corporation, an international consulting firm that specializes in measuring the economic impact of special events, provided the economic numbers.

Among the highlights of its findings are:

- $102.2 million of direct, indirect and induced impact derived from spending by non-local visiting specifically for WrestleMania.

- Fifty-four percent of fans that attended the event were from outside the New York/New Jersey area and stayed an average of four nights.

- The economic impact from the event was equal to the creation of 943 full-time jobs for the area.

- Non-locals spent $5.2 million at New Jersey and New York restaurants.

Those numbers are worth paying attention as Philadelphia has thrown its hat into the ring (no pun intended) to host WrestleMania at Lincoln Financial Field in either 2015 or 2016.

The city's lone competition looks to be Santa Clara, Calif. at the soon-to-be-built Levi's Stadium. Santa Clara is looking to be the frontrunner for the 2015 edition of WrestleMania due to the fact that the stadium will host the 2016 Super Bowl.

If Santa Clara is indeed handed WrestleMania in 2015, it is believed that the one in 2016 will go to Philadelphia.

The last time Philadelphia hosted a WrestleMania was back in 1999 at the First Union Center, now known as the Wells Fargo Center.

Although the event took place during the height of the famed "Attitude Era", the production and scale of it pales in comparison to today and didn't provided the economic jolt it could provide in 2015/2016.

New Orleans, the host city for WrestleMania in 2014, is expecting a "windfall" from the event, according to NOLA.com.
