WWE announce return of King of the Ring tournament

The WWE announced during the Extreme Rules pay-per-view that the King of the Ring tournament would be returning as a live special on the WWE Network Tuesday at 8 p.m.

The tournament will begin on Monday Night Raw, but the semi-finals and finals will take place live on the WWE Network Tuesday.

It will be the first time since 2010 that the WWE has held the King of the Ring when Sheamus defeated John Morrison in the final to win the crown.

The King of the Ring tournament began in 1985 before becoming an annual pay-per-view in 1993. After ending the pay-per-view in 2002, the King of the Ring went on hiatus until 2008 when William Regal won the crown.
