WWE SummerSlam 2014: Last-minute predictions for the show

The biggest event of the summer is finally upon and what an event it shaped up to be.

The card for this year's SummerSlam is headlined by a mega match between two of the biggest names in the history of the industry while the undercard features some intriguing matchups as well.

With all of that said, here what I think is going to go down at the Staples Center in Los Angeles Sunday night:

WWE World Heavyweight Championship – John Cena (c) vs. Brock Lesnar

There really is only one way I can see this match turning out: Brock Lesnar hitting John Cena with the F5 and winning the WWE World Heavyweight Championship.

It is the right thing to do in this circumstance. In my eyes, it is the only thing to do.

Although the outcome may seem predictable, there are two things that really have intrigued about this match.

Firstly, getting to that predictable outcome should be very entertaining. The last time these two squared off back in 2012 turned out to be an absolute war. That was an extreme rules match. Their match at SummerSlamm will not be contested under those rules, but I still expect Lesnar and Cena to exceed the quality of that match.

The second thing that has me intrigued about this match is that there's always a chance that Cena will defy the odds for 1,000th time and retain his championship. He is essentially a superhero after all and he defeated Lesnar in that 2012 encounter.

Although I think it is highly unlikely that the WWE will spurn a good portion of its fans with another Cena victory, there's always that slither of a chance, which makes every big match involving Cena interesting.

At the end of the day, however, I have to go with Lesnar. There's no reason for the man that ended The Undertaker's streak at WrestleMania to lose his very next match. It simply wouldn't make any sense to me.

And no, I do not foresee a cash-in attempt from Seth Rollins.

Prediction: Brock Lesnar WINS the WWE World Heavyweight Championship

Brie Bella vs. Stephanie McMahon

To think that this match is essentially the semi-main event is mind-boggling, but that is the circumstance at SummerSlam.

I've liked pretty much everything about this feud except for the Daniel Bryan affair aspect of it, which almost ruined the entire angle for me.

Nonetheless, I'm still pretty excited for this match.

There are a couple of ways this match could go, in my opinion. Brie Bella could simply win and gain her revenge on Stephanie McMahon and have a nice clean ending to the story.

Or you could have Stephanie McMahon come out on top with some form of shenanigans, possibly with the help of Brie Bella's own sister Nikki.

I personally think that would be overdoing it and lean toward Brie Bella gaining her revenge and getting the better of McMahon. Will there be shenanigans? I'm almost certain of it. McMahon hasn't wrestling in 10 years and Brie Bella isn't the most technical of performers in the ring.

What type of shenanigans could we expect? You would have to think Triple H would get involved in some way. If that happens, you would have to think Bryan would get involved in some way where he doesn't risk further injuring himself. The WWE went out of its way to involve Bryan on Raw last Monday for a reason, so I think we'll hear the Yes chant bellow throughout the Staples Center.

Prediction: Brie Bella def. Stephanie McMahon

Roman Reigns vs. Randy Orton

Here's another match with a seemingly predictable outcome.

Like the Cena-Lesnar match, I'm definitely interested in how Roman Reigns and Randy Orton get to that outcome.

If Reigns doesn't defeat Orton clean and in the middle of the ring, something is wrong. The WWE is clearly building Reigns as its next big star and Orton is merely a temporary roadblock on his way to the top.

But this is Reigns' first big one-on-one match on pay-per-view, which means this is put up or shut up time for the former Shield member.

This is not just a stepping-stone for Reigns. This is a de-facto audition to see if he can handle being in the main-event scene.

He's passed most, if not all of his tests so far, but this is by far his toughest and highest profile one yet.

I think he will gain the victory, but whether he will pass the test or not is a different story all together.

Prediction: Roman Reigns def. Randy Orton

Lumberjack Match - Dean Ambrose vs. Seth Rollins

I usually don't get excited for lumberjack matches because the WWE doesn't take advantage of the stipulation to tell a good story.

Hopefully, it does so with Dean Ambrose and Seth Rollins at SummerSlam. I also hope that these two get enough time in the ring to perform, as these two are capable of tearing the house down.

As far as a prediction, I was sort of leaning toward Ambrose, but with the news of him starring in a movie later this month, he may need some time off to take part in the production.

What's a better way to write him off television for a little while than losing to Rollins? When he comes back, however, I can see him gaining a big victory over Rollins.

But for now, I'm going with Rollins to win, especially if McMahon and Orton both lose their matches.

Prediction: Seth Rollins def. Dean Ambrose

WWE Divas Championship – AJ Lee (c) vs. Paige

This match is complete toss-up to me. I don't know why, but it just is.

I can make a case as to why both women could win the title. For AJ Lee, here run with the title just started and there's no real need to yank it off her right away. She's also proven to be a great Divas Champion.

For Paige, it would make more sense for the babyface to chase the heel champion. Not to mention, it would do wonders for her credibility to win back the title.

My gut tells me Lee will retain the title, so that's what I'm going with.

Prediction: AJ Lee RETAINS the WWE Divas Championship

Flag Match – Jack Swagger vs. Rusev

I think it would make all of the sense in the world to have Jack Swagger win this match and wave the American flag to give the people a very patriotic and happy end to this program.

But something tells me that's not going to happen.

There are two reasons for that. Firstly, the WWE clearly has Rusev on a path that will land him at the top of the card some time soon. In my opinion, it is not time to beat Rusev yet. That moment should be saved for something much bigger than a flag match.

Although he can't be pinned in a flag match, I don't think he should be beaten in any way, not even in a flag match. Keep him as strong as possible for when he does actually get beat it would mean so much more.

The second thing is that Swagger is a short-term babyface. I don't see the WWE really putting money behind Swagger as a good guy, so what would be the point of having him beat your Russian monster in Rusev? Save that for someone you have definite plans for.

I wouldn't sacrifice Rusev's rise for the sake of having one moment at SummerSlam.

Prediction: Rusev def. Jack Swagger

Chris Jericho vs. Bray Wyatt

This feud has so much potential, but it just hasn't quite lived up to it so far.

I can honestly say the best part of this feud so far was Bray Wyatt calling into Chris Jericho's podcast recently.

Other than that, everything else has been sub-par. Hopefully they will make for it at SummerSlam.

There's only one way I see this match ending, and that's with Wyatt hitting Jericho with the Sister Abigail and pinning him for the win.

Prediction: Bray Wyatt def. Chris Jericho

Intercontinental Championship – The Miz (c) vs. Dolph Ziggler

The Miz's run with the Intercontinental Championship has been short, but this is a circumstance where I believe the title will change hands.

The WWE has held off so long on putting Dolph Ziggler back into a featured role, but this may finally be the time.

I see Ziggler walking away with some gold on Sunday.
