WWE Smackdown Live results and observations (10/17/17): Jinder Mahal challenged who?

Although Raw is headed into a pay-per-view this Sunday, Smackdown Live probably provided the most notable headline coming out of this week's installments of WWE television.

It was not a headline many people expected, and from what I saw, many people were happy with, but it was quite notable nonetheless.

That combined with another productive outing from Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens made this week's edition of Smackdown Live a show worth watching.

Here are the full match results from the show, which emanated from KeyArena in Seattle:

- Naomi, Charlotte Flair & Becky Lynch def. Natalya, Lana & Tamina

- Sin Cara def. Baron Corbin via count out

- Dolph Ziggler def. Bobby Roode

- Sami Zayn & Kevin Owens def. Randy Orton & Shinsuke Nakamura

Jinder Mahal challenged Brock Lesnar

Apparently, being WWE champion is not enough for Mahal. He wants more.

After defeating Nakamura for a second time at Hell in a Cell, Mahal surveyed the landscape of Smackdown Live and determined that no one that is currently on the blue brand is worthy of challenging him for his coveted title.

So, Mahal has taken it upon himself to look elsewhere for a real challenge. That challenge is in the form of the current WWE Universal champion, Lesnar.

Lesnar, of course, is property of Raw and he will respond to Mahal's challenge on television next Monday.

Although it has not been made official yet, it certainly looks like we're getting a champion versus champion match between Mahal and Lesnar at Survivor Series.

I guess WWE is ditching the whole brand supremacy nonsense from last year and going for the brands' top champions to duke it out for … brand supremacy. Dang, that still matters to WWE for some reason.

Regardless, this turned some heads for sure. On the surface, this looks like a complete mismatch, right?

Lesnar is coming off a victory over Braun Strowman at No Mercy whereas Mahal earns all of his victories with some form of interference.

And while I don't believe Mahal is going to defeat Lesnar, especially since the latter is apparently earmarked for the main event of WrestleMania against Roman Reigns, there is still a part of me that believes WWE could potentially lean Mahal's way not only to put him over stronger in the Indian market, but also because of the company's love of the absurd.

I mean Mahal is WWE champion for goodness sakes, so I guess anything is possible, right?

WWE has a lot of work to do with this potential feud because as of right now, as I don't see fans really buying into this. Firstly, no one is going to take Mahal as a serious threat to Lesnar.

Secondly, I'm not sure a match with two heels going at it is something a promotion should sell its pay-per-view around.

And finally, there are two world champions squaring off with what at stake? I don't see WWE suddenly getting the urge to unify the Universal and WWE titles, so in theory, this match would be for basically nothing.

It would be for essentially bragging rights, which was a pay-per-view WWE tried before that no one cared about.

This also makes me think about my long running issue with having two world champions to begin with. Why wouldn't WWE want to determine one true champion?

But for whatever reason it doesn't and we have this match that, unless the titles are being unified, will largely mean nothing.

Before Survivor Series, however, Mahal is going to have to worry about AJ Styles, who made it abundantly clear that he wants a chance to wrestle for the WWE championship.

In a matter of weeks, Mahal could go from wrestling one former IWGP Heavyweight champion (Styles) to another former IWGP Heavyweight champion in Lesnar.

Zayn's heel turn is complete

Zayn had made it clear that he was officially a bad guy last week, but his actions during the main event made his heel turn 100 percent complete.

That is because Zayn used a low blow to defeat Orton and Nakamura in a tag team match alongside his very best friend, Owens.

The low blow was an exclamation point on a night where Zayn was a heel in every sense of the word.

He began the night by tearing down Smackdown Live general manager Daniel Bryan while literally wearing a black hat, and he ended the night winning a match by nefarious means.

Although it was odd for Zayn and Owens to come back out into the arena at the end of the show, we were treated to Owens forcefully telling Zayn "Hug me! Hold me tight!"

That was hilarious and it capped off another great night for the pairing of Zayn and Owens. I literally have no complaints about what they have done so far.

Pulp Fashion

The Fashion Files finally returned this week with a spoof of the classic Quentin Tarantino film Pulp Fiction.

But that wasn't all, as the board that constantly sits in the background during these segments provided multiple nods to another one of Tarantino's classic films, Reservoir Dogs.

The board featured photos of John Cena in his various shirt designs from over the years with the name "Mr. White" or "Mr. Pink" or "Mr. Orange" underneath them.

In the center was a picture of Road Dogg that said "Reservoir Dogg" underneath.

As a big Tarantino fan, I found this to be hysterical. The segment itself was not all that funny, but I guess it was still worth watching just for the board alone.

Sin Cara upended Corbin

I'm not sure what was more shocking: Sin Cara beating Corbin or that Sin Cara was even on television to begin with?

Either way, Kalisto's recent success must be rubbing off on his former tag team partner, as Sin Cara defeated Corbin via count out.

I assume this will land Sin Cara a future United States title shot against Corbin, which I fully expect Corbin to win.

Ziggler-Roode isn't over for some reason

Despite being a fan of both men, I have almost no interest in what Ziggler and Roode are doing.

WWE didn't necessarily give me a reason to be interested Tuesday, but replaying the same finish these two had at Hell in a Cell, but with the roles reversed, as Ziggler rolled up Roode to get the victory.

This didn't do anyone any favors.
