WWE NXT television recap (07/27/16): NXT Takeover: Brooklyn main event is set

NXT began to build toward the second edition of NXT Takeover: Brooklyn Wednesday by announcing the main event of the highly anticipated show.

That main event of NXT Takeover: Brooklyn will feature Samoa Joe defending his NXT championship against Shinsuke Nakamura.

NXT general manager William Regal announced the match after Nakamura defeated Wesley Blake in a surprisingly entertaining contest. Apparently, Regal did not discuss his decision with Samoa Joe, and the champion was none too happy about it.

At the end of the program, Samoa Joe went to the ring and said that Nakamura had not yet earned a championship match, and demanded that he and Regal come up with a way to determine a worthy No. 1 contender that he approved of.

Regal stood firm in his decision and even threatened Samoa Joe that if he didn't go through with the match, he would be stripped of the title. With that being the case, Samoa Joe reluctantly accepted the match.

The semi main event for NXT Takeover: Brooklyn is close to being established as well, as Bayley put in a request to Regal to face Asuka for the NXT Women's championship at the same event she won the title last year.

Regal said that he was going to get in contact with Asuka to see how she felt about it. If she felt good about it, Regal said he was going to get papers drawn up and have a contract signing.

Among the other noteworthy happenings on the show was the NXT debut of Kota Ibushi, who defeated Buddy Murphy in a pretty good match. Ibushi was touted as being one of the hardest strikers in combat sports and as one of the favorites to win the WWE Cruiserweight Classic.

No Way Jose defeated Steve Cutler in a short match, but instead of just dancing the night away in celebration of his victory, he took the microphone and expressed his intentions of taking down Austin Aries.

Here are the full match results:

- Shinsuke Nakamura def. Wesley Blake

- Billie Kay def. Santana Garrett

- TM-61 def. Rob Kimball & Adrian Nails

- No Way Jose def. Steve Cutler

- Kota Ibushi def. Buddy Murphy
