WWE NXT results and observations (9/13/17): Adam Cole, Kyle O'Reilly, Bobby Fish strike again

This week's installment of NXT was the latest round of evidence that WWE's hybrid third brand had completed its rebuilding phase and is prepared to begin firing on all cylinders.

That is because this week's show was filled with entertaining matches and intriguing happenings that will make NXT appointment television for weeks to come.

The headlining match of this week's episode of NXT was a WWE United Kingdom championship match with Pete Dunne defending the title against Wolfgang.

Dunne managed to fend off a game challenge from Wolfgang after a good match, but that turned out to be only half the story.

The other half snuck into the ring soon after the bell sounded, as Adam Cole, Kyle O'Reilly and Bobby Fish surrounded Dunne.

Dunne made it clear that he wanted no parts of the dangerous trio, but decided to defend himself anyway by swinging at O'Reilly. Fish and Cole quickly swarmed him before Wolfgang joined the fray to help Dunne.

While O'Reilly, Cole and Fish turned their attention to Wolfgang, Dunne slyly slipped out of the ring, stood on the ramp and watched as Fish, Cole and O'Reilly decimated Wolfgang.

The fans at Full Sail urged Dunne to help to the man that came to his defense moments earlier, and at first, it looked like Dunne was going to return the favor, as he ran back to the ring.

However, he only went back to the ring to retrieve his United Kingdom title, not to help Wolfgang. Dunne walked away while shrugging his shoulders, as if to say, "Hey, I'm not trying to get butt whooped like Wolfgang."

It was a rather clever tease from Dunne and only reaffirmed that he is indeed a heel.

After Cole, Fish and O'Reilly were finally done beating on Wolfgang, they left the arena through the crowd. That was when Tyler Bate and Trent Seven ran to the ring to check on Wolfgang.

The show began with a tag team bout that pitted Peyton Royce and Billie Kay against Ruby Riot and a partner of her choosing.

For whatever reason, Riot did not choose a partner and began the match on her own, which did not go so well for her.

Not long into the match, though, Sanity's Nikki Cross began sneaking around ringside. Cross eventually stood in Riot's corner, tagged herself into the match, beat up Kay and Royce and tagged herself back out of the match before leaving with a big smile on her face.

Riot put the finishing touches on the win, but looked highly confused after the match, as she wondered why Cross would suddenly stand in her corner after the two had such an intense rivalry during the summer.

I'm not sure whether this was Cross doing another random thing or the completion of Sanity's babyface turn or both. Either way, it worked and made for an entertaining opening contest.

The next match was Johnny Gargano going up against Riddick Moss. The match came about after Moss and his partner Tino Sabbatelli made fun of Gargano for losing his match at NXT Takeover: Brooklyn.

At one point, Gargano locked Moss in the Gargano Escape, but Moss was able to crawl to the bottom rope to break the hold, which left Gargano stunned.

It looked like Gargano's momentary mental lapse was going to cost him yet another match, but he managed to regain his focus in time to hit Moss with a diving spear to pick up the victory.

The evening's least eventful match was The Street Profits defeating The Ealy Brothers, but that doesn't mean there wasn't anything to remember about the match at all.

What I took away from it was just how fun Angelo Dawkins and Montez Ford are to watch, and the fans at Full Sail apparently felt the same way, as The Street Profits held them in the palm of their hands.

After their victory, Dawkins and Ford celebrated amongst the NXT fans, who were more than receptive the relatively new tandem.

Dawkins and Ford have tremendous chemistry together and seem like they are genuinely having fun performing their role. The fans take notice of stuff like that and will get behind almost every time.

The Street Profits doesn't just seem like something that is only built to last in front of the Full Sail audience. I think The Street Profits could be rather popular on the main roster one day, too.
