WWE NXT results and observations (2/22/17): Kassius Ohno returns
This week's episode of NXT saw a new No. 1 contender to Asuka's NXT Women's championship crowned and the return of a familiar face to Full Sail.
We start with the return, which occurred after NXT champion Bobby Roode defeated No Way Jose in the main event.
Picking up the victory apparently wasn't enough for Roode, as he continued to decimate Jose and attempted to damage his knee.
Roode's post-match beatdown was cut short by the returning Kassius Ohno, who charged to the ring, prompting Roode to scurry away.
Ohno then picked up a microphone and said that he was coming for Roode's championship. Roode responded by essentially saying, "Why wait?" and went back to the ring to have an impromptu title match against Ohno.
Ohno took his blazer off to set it outside the ring, but in doing so, turned his back on Roode, which allowed the champion to ambush Ohno from behind.
Roode attacked Ohno's knee, but Ohno was able to fight him off and stand tall to end the show. Ohno was last with the promotion back in 2013 and left the company under what appeared to be good terms.
That must have been the case, as he is back in the fold and is already having matches on NXT's untelevised live events, including one in Philadelphia back on Feb. 9.
The next challenger for Asuka's NXT Women's title will be Peyton Royce, who earned the opportunity after defeating Ember Moon and Liv Morgan in a triple threat.
Royce did not pick up the win without help, and that help came in the form of her usual partner in crime, Billie Kay.
Kay's responsibility during the match was to keep Moon preoccupied while Royce worked on Morgan most of the match.
Moon eventually fought her way back into the match, but Royce was still able to pick up the win by pinning Morgan.
The best match of the show was between Pete Dunne and Mark Andrews in a contest between two WWE United Kingdom Championship Tournament participants.
In fact, Dunne defeated Andrews in the semifinals of the tournament. History repeated itself Wednesday, as Dunne managed to defeat Andrews again.
Here are the full match results:
- Peyton Royce def. Liv Morgan & Ember Moon
- Pete Dunne def. Mark Andrews
- Bobby Roode def. No Way Jose
