WWE Hell in a Cell 2014: Last-minute predictions for each match

When I look at the card for Hell in a Cell, I see lost potential.

Sure, we do get a potential main event of Dean Ambrose and Seth Rollins inside of the Hell in a Cell, but without Brock Lesnar and John Cena finishing up their feud at this event, the whole thing just feels odd.

Without Lesnar in the fold, at least for the time being, we're left with Ambrose and Rollins potentially being trumped by the 1,968th meeting between John Cena and Randy Orton, which will inexplicably take place inside of the Hell in a Cell.

It doesn't help that the undercard didn't necessarily get the best build in the world and looks underwhelming overall.

All right, time for me to get off my soapbox and roll out some predictions as to what will take place at the American Airlines Center in Dallas:

Hell in a Cell – Seth Rollins vs. Dean Ambrose

This is the match that rightfully deserves to close the show Sunday night. It has the most build, the deepest story and two very capable performers who I'm almost sure will tear the house down.

This has match of the year potential and I cannot wait for this encounter.

As far as a winner, I think it's Dean Ambrose's time to shine. He's been ushered into the No. 2 babyface spot since Roman Reigns' injury and has fit into the role quite well — perhaps even better than Reigns did.

The entire build to this match was about someone, specifically Ambrose, getting their hands on Rollins, so it's only fitting that Ambrose takes advantage of the opportunity that he's waited so long to get.

On top of that, Rollins won their match at SummerSlam and stomped Ambrose's head into cinder blocks the very next night.

I think it's time for Ambrose to enact revenge and stand tall at the end of the night with the fans in Dallas firmly behind him.

Prediction: Dean Ambrose def. Seth Rollins

Hell in a Cell – John Cena vs. Randy Orton

A match between two future WWE Hall of Famers should have a lot more anticipation surrounding it, but when the two men have faced each other thousands of times on pay-per-view and free television, the attraction loses quite a bit of its luster.

The WWE has attempted to spice up this encounter by making the winner the No. 1 contender for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship.

Although that makes very little sense, as the only reason why John Cena is even in the match is because he lost to Ambrose on national television, I like it because it may lead to a title match between Randy Orton and Brock Lesnar.

It's always tough to bet against Cena on pay-per-view, especially since he and Lesnar have unfinished business, but for the sake of having a fresh and intriguing match-up, I want to see Orton win and move on to face Lesnar at some point.

Orton wouldn't even have to make a full-blown face turn to go up against Lesnar. The match as is sounds good to me.

I'm going with Orton to defeat Cena yet again simply so I could see him go against Lesnar at some point.

Prediction: Randy Orton def. John Cena

Big Show vs. Rusev

I must admit that I did not have high expectations for the Rusev-Big Show feud. It's not that I had low expectations; I just though it would be your run-of-the-mill mid-card angle.

What we've gotten instead is a pretty hot feud. It's so hot that it probably should culminate inside the Hell in a Cell, but I'm not upset that it won't.

Conventional wisdom would say that Big Show would get the better of Rusev in this match because of all the dastardly things the Russian sympathizer has done recently, but I am firm believer that Rusev's time to lose is still very far away.

Yeah, Rusev's loss may come at the hands of Cena at some point, but I think his eventual loss should be a very big deal. This is not the time yet.

Prediction: Rusev def. Big Show

WWE Intercontinental Championship – Dolph Ziggler (c) vs. Cesaro (2-out-of-3 falls)

On paper, this match looks like it will be incredible. Cesaro and Dolph Ziggler are two of the best in-ring performers in the world and putting them in a 2-out-of-3 falls match will only enhance their respective skill sets.

The only problem is that neither guy has any momentum heading into this match. Ziggler is in the midst of a losing streak and Cesaro is merely just another guy at this point.

I love Ziggler, but I think it's finally time to pull the trigger and Cesaro and do something with him. That something is to give him the Intercontinental Championship.

I understand that winning the title is almost as big a detriment as it is a benefit at this point, but maybe, just maybe the WWE will actually do something with Cesaro this time around.

Prediction: Cesaro WINS the Intercontinental Championship

WWE Tag Team Championship – Goldust & Stardust (c) vs. The Usos

I've seen these two go against each other so many times over the last two months that I could care less whom wins, to be perfectly honest.

For the sake of making a prediction, I will go with Goldust and Stardust.

Prediction: Goldust & Stardust RETAIN the WWE Tag Team Championship

WWE United States Championship – Sheamus (c) vs. The Miz

Sheamus is almost like the third wheel in this program and he's the champion. It's just another example of the sad state of the WWE's mid-card titles.

In reality, The Miz is just there, too. The real star of this program is Damien Mizdow.

I'm more interested in what he will get himself into outside of the ring than whatever The Miz and Sheamus will do during the match.

I guess Sheamus will win, but only because we'll begin to see some cracks in the relationship between Mizdow and The Miz.

Prediction: Sheamus retains the WWE United States Championship

WWE Divas Championship – AJ Lee (c) vs. Paige

This is slowly becoming the Cena-Orton of the Divas division. These two have faced been feuding for months and nothing has really changed all that much between these two. This literally goes all the way back to April.

They may very well flip flop the title again, but I'll just go with AJ Lee for the heck of it.

Prediction: AJ Lee RETAINS the Divas Championship

Brie Bella vs. Nikki Bella

I'm not looking forward to this match at all. I thought this feud was winding down, but with the stipulation of the loser being the winner's personal assistant, it looks like we're going to be getting a lot more of this feud moving forward.

Since that stipulation is in place, it's tailor-made for the heel Nikki Bella to win, so that she can boss around her sister for an entire month.

Prediction: Nikki Bella def. Brie Bella
