WWE Hall of Famer Jake 'The Snake' Roberts enjoying life like he never has before

No matter what part of the country Jake "The Snake" Roberts is in, the sun is always shining in his world.

He has turned his life around from a life of addiction to a life of health and fitness, re-established a healthy relationship with his children and will be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame April 5 in New Orleans.

Not even a recent cancer scare can get Roberts down. Roberts is all smiles, as this is truly one of the better times of his life.

"There's so much electricity in the air and so many good thoughts going through me," Roberts said during an interview with philly.com. "Nothing can take the shine off what's about to happen because not only am I being inducted into the Hall of Fame, which is something I didn't think would ever happen because of my out-of-the-ring antics and some of the things I said."

"People have to remember that an alcoholic and a drug addict can be known to tell a lie or two and I certainly did my share of it with lashing out and was pretty ugly about it," he added. "For Vince McMahon to forgive and forget — maybe he hasn't forgotten, but at least he's forgiven — and to invite me into the Hall of Fame […] it's going to be an awesome, awesome moment."

While Roberts is merely days away from taking his rightful place among the greatest wrestlers of all time, 18 months ago, Roberts' induction seemed light-years away. Roberts was enduring a long battle with addiction that he was losing on a daily basis. Not to mention, he was in very poor health.

Roberts was in desperate need of someone to extend the proverbial olive branch and help bring him out of the doldrums. As fate would have it, that person turned out to be Diamond Dallas Page. Roberts mentored Page as he was making his way into the wrestling business.

Page was not only returning the favor, but more importantly, was saving his friend's life. Roberts moved into Page's "Accountability Crib" and despite a few setbacks, has made a number of positive life changes.

Firstly, Roberts is now sober after struggling with addiction for years. Secondly, with the help Page's DDP Yoga, Roberts is as healthy as he's been in a long time.

When it came to select a person to induct him into the Hall of Fame, there was only one choice for Roberts.

"There would have been no other choice other than god himself," Roberts said of Page. "Diamond Dallas saved my life. He didn't have to, but that's the kind of guy he is."

"He's helped so many people with his DDP Yoga. It's just incredible with the lives he's changing, the lives he's affecting," Roberts added. "I am so honored to be part of that. Me making my journey, Scott Hall making his journey, we opened the doors for a lot of people out there that are struggling with all sorts of addictions. Whether it's food or sex or whatever it's still an addiction and addictions aren't healthy."

Like Roberts, Hall was in dire straights in his life as well. That was until Page and Roberts reached out to him and offered their help. Since then, Hall has turned his life around for the better and will be inducted alongside Roberts into the WWE Hall of Fame in New Orleans.

"Do you realize that if we would have put a dollar in [Las] Vegas 18 months ago and said we're both going to be sober in 18 months and going into the Hall of Fame, we'd be billionaires right now?" Roberts asked.

People can also go to Las Vegas and bet that Roberts and Hall will have pretty entertaining induction speeches April 5. Roberts insists that he will not have a written speech and will speak solely from the heart.

"Speak from your heart, not your head," Roberts said. "You speak from your head you can wind up getting yourself in a lot of crap. You speak from your heart I think you're pretty safe. I got some things I need to say, I want to say, that I have to say and I know what they are. I'll just let it fly, man."

If people don't get enough of hearing Roberts speak during the induction ceremony they can expect a book about his life to be released some time in June.

"Right now, it's 600 pages and that doesn't even get me to the WWE years," Roberts said. "It's going to be a really, really intense book. I think it will help a lot of people understand more about addiction and more about people that have had struggles in their lives with sexual abuse."

"I'm opening the doors to my life," Roberts added. "I'm not talking about anybody else. It's just my own. I really look forward to having out there and traveling around and promoting it."

Moving forward, Roberts is working on honing his craft in the world of comedy and re-connecting with his children as well as his fan base.

"I blew past them the first time around," Roberts said of the fans. "I didn't have my eyes open. I do enjoy things these days. I enjoy going to these conventions and things. I just enjoy being around fans, man."

But Roberts wouldn't be himself if he weren't doing something he's not necessarily supposed to be doing. Roberts was diagnosed with cancer in his knee back February. He had successful surgery on the knee and it is in the healing phase.

Despite that, Roberts is still taking wrestling bookings. A cancerous knee would bring storm clouds to most, but the sun is still beaming into Roberts' eyes.

"I'm still stupid," Roberts said jokingly. "I still do what I'm not supposed to do. Are you serious? I'm Jake 'The Snake', man. I never claimed to be the sharpest knife in the drawer."
