WWE Cruiserweight Classic results and observations (08/24/16)

The final three spots in the WWE Cruiserweight Classic quarterfinals were set Wednesday night after multiple styles were on display in a trio of entertaining bouts.

The main event of the evening saw a surprising outcome, as T.J. Perkins outlasted Johnny Gargano via submission to punch his ticket to the quarters.

Gargano was seen as a favorite to win the entire tournament, but an injured knee prevented him from overcoming Perkins' precise offense.

With the win, Perkins will face Rich Swann in the next round after he defeated Lince Dorado in a showcase of aerial exploits. Swann didn't land a standing 450-splash this time around. Instead, he won with an equally impressive phoenix splash.

Sandwiched in between those two contests was the grappling exhibition between Zack Sabre Jr. and Philadelphia's Drew Gulak.

Gulak and Sabre rarely left their feet, hit the rope and maybe went to the top rope on one occasion, but they still managed to produce a highly entertaining match.

Despite a game effort from the Northeast High School graduate, Sabre sent Gulak home after catching him in an unexpected pin attempt.

Here are the full match results:

- Rich Swann (United States) def. Lince Dorado (Puerto Rico)

- Zack Sabre Jr. (England) def. Drew Gulak (United States)

- T.J. Perkins (Phillippines) def. Johnny Gargano (United States)
