WWE Battleground 2014: Last-minute predictions for the show

Let's be realistic, WWE Battleground is merely a bridge that takes us from one point to another, with the landing spot being Summerslam in August.

With that said, this is a pretty interesting bridge along the way that people shouldn't just gloss over.

Battleground is one of the few WWE pay-per-views recently where I've thought to myself, "Wow, this a really good card." And I'm not just talking about the semi-main and main events.

There are four or five matches on this card that have I legitimately anticipate watching.

The fans watching live in Tampa, Fla., along with everyone watching in their comfort of their own homes, should receive at the very least a good show.

Now, let's run through my predictions:

Fatal Four-Way for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship – John Cena vs. Roman Reigns vs. Randy Orton vs. Kane

The match that personifies the bridge that this event represents is the main event. Although nothing has been officially announced, John Cena is slated to defend the WWE World Heavyweight Championship against Brock Lesnar at Summerslam, which means he will retain the title at Battleground.

But getting to that point could be interesting.

Fatal four-ways can be clusters sometimes, but I think this one will pretty entertaining. Add to that the growing tension between Cena and Roman Reigns and it could make for a pretty interesting stop on Cena's road to Lesnar.

The outcome may be obvious, but I think we will enjoy getting to that point.

Prediction: John Cena RETAINS the WWE World Heavyweight Championship

Seth Rollins vs. Dean Ambrose

The WWE has had a trend the last couple of years with the Money in the Bank winner, and that is for them to lose — a lot.

Why? My guess is that they believe the Money in the Bank winner can afford to lose since he's guaranteed to be a world champion at some point over the next year. Is that sound logic? I don't think so, but that's been the trend.

Now, I don't think that the WWE is going to have Seth Rollins on a lengthy losing streak any time soon. He is with The Authority and in order to keep that group strong, Rollins needs victories.

However, I do feel as though he will lose this match. On top of Rollins holding the briefcase, his opponent Dean Ambrose hasn't necessarily been on fire lately, which means he could use the win.

Ambrose is getting pretty big reactions when he appears on shows and the WWE needs to capitalize on that momentum and keep him looking strong. A win here would do that.

The only draw back to having Ambrose win is that it essentially ends his feud with Rollins. This feud still has legs, in my opinion, but it's up to the WWE to decide what's more important: Keeping a feud going to fill time on television or facilitate the growth of another star for the future?

I choose the latter.

Prediction: Dean Ambrose def. Seth Rollins

Chris Jericho vs. Bray Wyatt

I don't think this feud has even scratched the surface of its potential, mainly because there is a lot happening on WWE television right now.

I think it can moving forward, but that hasn't quite happened yet.

With that said, I'm still very much looking forward to this match.

When it comes to choosing a winner, I have a bit of a dilemma. On one end, you can have Bray Wyatt defeat Chris Jericho, which would boost Wyatt's stock. But what would that do for Jericho?

Jericho has only been back for a couple of weeks and outside of his match with The Miz, has been getting a good look at the lights courtesy of The Wyatt Family. So what do you do?

Since Jericho has confirmed that he will be around through Night of Champions in September, I have to believe there is at least one more match between him and Wyatt. If that's the case, Jericho can somehow win this one, but Wyatt has to take the remaining matches in this program.

Jericho is a six-time world champion and is never truly going to look weak. He's that big of a star, but he does have to seem like a threat for Wyatt. He won't look like much of a threat if he loses this first match.

Prediction: Chris Jericho def. Bray Wyatt

WWE Tag Team Championship – The Usos (c) vs. The Wyatt Family (Luke Harper & Erick Rowan)

I gave a long explanation on who should win this match when I predicted Money in the Bank. Go back and read that, then come back here.

For here, I'll keep it short and sweet: If The Wyatt Family doesn't win this match, something is seriously wrong here.

Prediction: They Wyatt Family WINS the WWE Tag Team Championship

Battle Royal of the Intercontinental Championship

There are way too many people in this match for me to list them all here. If you really want to see who is in this match, click here.

But since most of the people in this match have no chance of winning anyway, it really doesn't matter all that much.

To me, this match is essentially between Cesaro, The Miz and Bo Dallas. When this match was first announced, Cesaro seemed like the obvious favorite.

But since he's been a losing a ton lately and he seems to have been separated from Paul Heyman, I'm not so sure anymore. Maybe him losing is a red herring for him winning the title. I don't know.

I think The Miz has done good work with this new movie star character he's portrayed since returning and would make for a good heel champion on the upper mid-card.

Dallas has been one of my favorite characters to watch on a weekly basis, and the WWE could add some fuel to his fire by giving him the Intercontinental Championship.

At the end of the day, my gut tells me to stick to my initial prediction of Cesaro.

Prediction: Cesaro WINS the Intercontinental Championship

Divas Championship – AJ Lee (c) vs. Paige

I think the obvious pick is for AJ Lee to retain the Divas Championship, but I think the most interesting thing coming out of this should be a sign of the transformation of Paige.

Paige showed signs of a heel when she surprisingly lost the Divas Championship a couple of weeks back. Ever since, she's been pretending to be best friends with AJ Lee.

We all know that's going to change at some point and Battleground will more than likely be the start of that.

Prediction: AJ Lee RETAINS the Divas Championship

Jack Swagger vs. Rusev

Who would have though that a feud between Jack Swagger and Rusev would some heat behind, but that has been the case.

Swagger, who has never been a babyface during his entire WWE run, has got the crowd firmly behind him, especially with Zeb Colter as his mouthpiece.

Rusev and Lana have the crowd firmly against them and will probably have even more heat given the recent tragedy in the Ukraine.

Swagger has a lot of momentum and has made Rusev look vulnerable at times, but that was merely a means to an end. That end is for Rusev to vanquish a legitimate threat to him.

Swagger has been built up the last couple of weeks for him to be beaten by Rusev. It's that plain and simple. Plus, it's just not time beat Rusev yet. That's a moment saved for later down the road.

Prediction: Rusev def. Jack Swagger

Kickoff match: Naomi vs. Cameron

I doubt this match will make people want to make a last-minute purchase of the pay-per-view, but stranger things have happened I guess.

I truly believe Naomi has a lot of talent, whereas Cameron still has a ways to go. Since that is the case, Naomi should win.

Prediction: Naomi def. Cameron
