NXT television report (06/29/16): The Authors write another beating

A decent start and a thrilling finish highlighted this week's episode of NXT.

We started off with a decent match between Alexa Bliss and Carmella to see who could improve their standing in the NXT Women's championship hunt. In the end, Bliss fought her way past Carmella to boost her status.

After the match, Bliss interrupted a backstage interview with Bayley, telling her that if Bayley wants to a chance to reclaim the NXT Women's title, the former champion is going to have to go through her first.

Soon after that, it was announced that Bliss will face Bayley next week in what I see as a de-facto No. 1 contender's match. That is unless the winner will then face Nia Jax in a real No. 1 contender's match.

The show ended with a very entertaining match between The Hype Bros and Tommaso Ciampa and Johnny Gargano.

This match was a lot of fun and was easily the best of the night. In my opinion, it was one of NXT's best tag team matches all year. It is certainly not the best, but it deserves to be high up on that list.

Ciampa and Gargano earned the victory and staked their claim to an NXT Tag Team title match by virtue of their recent win over the current champions, The Revival.

Former tag team champions American Alpha then came out and said that Ciampa and Gargano are a fine team, but would have to wait until they received their automatic rematch first.

The Revival entered the conversation and said that they called the shots and that neither top team was worthy of a title match. This brought out NXT general manager William Regal, who set the record straight by first telling Ciampa and Gargano that they would be receiving an NXT tag team title match in the future, but next week, American Alpha would be getting their rematch against The Revival in a two-out-of-three falls match.

So that means next week's episode of NXT will have the third chapter of the American Alpha-Revival rivalry and an important match between Bayley and Bliss.

After Regal's announcement, Ciampa and Gargano left American Alpha alone in the ring, which gave the Authors of Pain a good opportunity to come out and beat them down once again.

Jason Jordan managed to get one of the … uh …  authors up for a big suplex, which got a big reaction from the crowd, but the other … uh … author jumped on him to finish American Alpha off.

One of my only issues with the show was that Adrade Almas is still wearing that awful entrance attire. He got rid of the feather in his fedora, but is still rocking the suspenders, which also need to go. The fedora should go, too.

My other gripe was the sit-down interview NXT did with Nakamura. The segment wasn't bad, but it didn't feel like Nakamura. One of the best parts of Nakamura's matches from Japan — besides the action in the ring — were the pre-match vignettes, which were shot in Nakamura's element. What NXT did Wednesday was have Nakamura speak in a studio.

I would advise someone from NXT to check out some of the pre-match videos from Japan and try to duplicate that style. Maybe that type of video is being saved for a different time, but I think Wednesday would have been a good time to use it.

With that said, here are the full match results:

- Alexa Bliss def. Carmella

- Andrade Almas def. Noah Potjes

- Tommaso Ciampa & Johnny Gargano def. The Hype Bros
