Man shot by police outside WWE Performance Center

A 29-year-old man believed to be armed with a knife was shot by a deputy outside the WWE Performance Center in Orlando, authorities said.

According to a report from WESH.com in Orlando, it was the third time in 30 days that authorities had encountered the unidentified man, who is said to be fixated on a female wrestler. The identity of the wrestler was not released. She was not present during the encounter.

Sheriff Jerry Demings told reporters in Orlando that police responded to a trespassing call around 1:30 p.m. Once police arrived, Demings said the man charged at deputies before being shot by Cpl. Steve Wahl.

The man was taken to Orlando Regional Medical center and was treated for a life-threatening gunshot wound. His name had yet to be released pending family notification, according to WESH.com.

"Unfortunately, a deranged individual with no WWE affiliation, who had a court order prohibiting him from being on WWE property, was involved in an incident with an Orange Country Sheriff's deputy in the parking lot of the WWE Performance Center. We defer to the Orange County Sheriff's department for further comment and information," the WWE said in a statement.
