Pennsylvania 6 to get new life as a pub
Minor tweaking of the atmosphere.
The former Pennsylvania 6 at 114 S. 12th St., which closed in August, has a new operator, Puri Garzone, who owns Westy's.
Garzone says he plans to tinker just a bit with the atmosphere and reopen as a pub. Pennsy 6 had been a classic American oyster house.
Garzone says he's aiming at mid- to late-March for the opening. The name is still TBA.
Over the years, the two-level space with dramatic balconies had housed Tweed, Les Bons Temps, TPDS, Odeon, and Bistro Bix.
Pennsylvania 6 is the telephone number of the Hotel Pennsylvania in Manhattan (PEnnsylvania 6-5000), said to be the oldest working phone number in NYC. Newer branches of the restaurant remain open in New York and Washington, D.C.
