Beset by a longtime construction project by its front door, the Washington Square West bistro Pennsylvania 6 will close after dinner Saturday, Aug. 12.

The restaurant, which opened at 114 S. 12th St. in April 2013, will be renovated and is expected to reopen later this year with a new name and concept.

Over the years, the bilevel space with dramatic balconies had housed Tweed, Les Bons Temps, TPDS, Odeon, and Bistro Bix.

Pennsylvania 6 is the telephone number of the Hotel Pennsylvania in Manhattan (PEnnsylvania 6-5000), said to be the oldest working phone number in NYC. Newer branches of the restaurant remain open in New York and Washington, D.C.

Management said it would accept Pennsylvania 6 gift cards at any other location, including the new concept and at its City Tap House.
