They’re headed into Southwest Center City, taking the never-before-occupied ground-floor space in Carpenter Square at the corner of 17th and Carpenter Streets.
Tentative name is L’Anima – “the soul.”
The Roman-born Demontis is not 100 percent certain of the menu, though suggests it will be Roman in spirit and will include lots of seafood. It will be BYOB, just as Melograno (2012 Sansom St.) and Fraschetta (816 Lancaster Ave.) are. Atmosphere will not be as rustic as the others.
It also will serve lunch as well as dinner, a telling sign for the up-and-coming neighborhood.
“We found it just like we did the first Melograno – driving by,” Luca said, referring to Melograno’s early incarnation at 2201 Spruce St., now Fitler Dining Room. “It’s a cool spot.” The building is set in from the corner, creating a small plaza that will accommodate outdoor seating.
They’re hoping for a fall opening.
Josh Weiss of MSC Retail handled the real estate transaction.
