Yearning to feed the South Street crowd, Humpty's Dumplings out of Glenside has opened a branch at 705 E. Passyunk Ave., just south of Fifth and Bainbridge Streets in Queen Village.

This wildly decorated storefront by Jack Craig, Phillip Yesenosky, and Patrick Doyle specializes in golfball-size dumplings with fillings usually found in sandwiches, such as honey chipotle chicken, roast pork, and cheesesteak, as well as sweet varieties such as apple pie and cheesecake.

All are available steamed or fried; they're five to an order for $7.50 and can be mixed.

Chef Joe Ermigiotti also offers bowls of lo mein noodles with four options ($10). Today's selection, for example, was buffalo chicken, cheesesteak, chicken pot pie, and roast pork. There's also a salad, such as watermelon and arugula.

Closing time is still a work in progress; it opens daily at 11 a.m. and keeps the lights on late.
