Gin & Pop coming to a Francisville corner

Expected opening is the third week of August, "but you know how that goes," co-owner Tom Kwiatkowski said.

Brothers Kris and Tom Kwiatkowski are setting up a bar/restaurant at the multipronged intersection of 19th, Poplar, and Ginnodo Streets in Francisville.

What to name it? Exclude the numbered street, which factors into the names of other bar/restaurants around town. You then have Gin & Pop, which is taking the former Flying Carpet (1841 Poplar St.). Expected opening is the third week of August, "but you know how that goes," Tom said.

Tom's bar background includes current employers Scarpetta and MilkBoy. Kris, a former pro drummer, comes from the finance side. They bought the building two years ago.

Josh Noh (ex-Sampan, Matyson) is on board as chef.

Tom says to expect a vibe that's "industrial steam punk, but not too crazy."

Ten beers are on draft, and more will be available as bottles and cans, along with seasonal cocktails and gin-infused cocktails. Some drinks will be set on fire, meaning that you can use that "lit" filter on Instagram/Snapchat with complete confidence.

It will be open evenings Wednesday through Monday (right – it's closed Tuesday), with all-day brunch Sunday.
