Whether it’s Bud Light or hometown favorite Yards, the free beer will be flowing Thursday.
Bud Light is making good on its word to give a beer to adult Eagles fans to celebrate the Super Bowl win, as the city has declared Thursday as Philly Philly Day, and the beer brand is a sponsor of the festivities.
And you don’t even have to go to the victory parade to get one.
But the names of the participating bars, the number of bars, or even how many free beers will be available are not being disclosed, likely due to safety concerns.
The Reddit user brownandwhite2 posted a list of bars and the times they would be serving. The list shows 34 locations, mainly in Center City and within several blocks of the route. A spot-check, in which I called 10 of the bars, suggests that it is accurate.
Here is how the giveaway will work: Eagles fans should look for Bud Light reps at one of the participating bars and taverns along the parade route, which will wend from South Philadelphia to the Art Museum starting at 11 a.m.
After a fan verifies age with the bar, Bud Light reps will give out a single token, which can be exchanged for a Bud Light. When someone redeems a token, he or she will receive a stamp indicating to all participating bars that they have already received their one comp Bud Light.
The Bud Light reps at participating bars also will distribute $10 Lyft coupons to encourage fans to get home safely.
For those who can’t make the parade, Bud Light also will offer a $7 rebate on purchases of a Bud Light six-pack (or larger) in excess of $7. The purchase must made on Feb. 8 or Feb. 9. Visit budlight.com/phillyphilly for more information.
A Bud Light representative said the company had never done a giveaway of this magnitude. It shipped the cans to the bars earlier this week.
This “give a fan a beer” campaign began last summer — before the season — when tackle Lane Johnson said that if the Eagles won the Super Bowl, he would buy. “I have a lot to prove to this city,” Johnson said. “I think if we have a few big years and make the playoffs, if we win a Super Bowl, I’m giving out beer to everybody.”
Bud Light’s social-media team stepped in to make good on the promise.
Yards Brewing Co., meanwhile, is offering a free Philly Pale Ale on Thursday at its new taproom at 500 Spring Garden St. The taproom will open at 11:30 a.m.
