A representative said Alla Spina — the hard-rocking, graffitoed Italian gastropub off North Broad Street that was part of the Vetri empire that Urban Outfitters acquired in late 2015 — would close after brunch Sunday, Jan. 28.
The restaurant, which opened in February 2012, seemed to be an outlier in Urban’s restaurant portfolio — not scalable as Pizzeria Vetri, Amis, and Terrain. The other former Vetri restaurant, Osteria, is being sold to chef Jeff Michaud and restaurateur Michael Schulson in a deal announced last week.
Michaud recently left Urban’s employ, following founders Marc Vetri and Jeff Benjamin, who still own the flagship Vetri Cucina on Spruce Street.
Steve Wildy, the Vetri Family longtime beverage director who was instrumental in setting up Alla Spina, this week said he would remain with Urban, as will chef Brad Spence, whose wagon is hitched to the Amis restaurants in Washington Square West and the Navy Yard in South Philadelphia.
