Scott and Sherri Hockfield have just unwrapped their second Wrap Shack, which is occupying part of the ground-floor space at 112 S. 11th St. that used to house Baum’s Dancewear, next to MilkBoy.
Wrap Shack had decidedly modest beginnings 15 years ago, operating out of a literal shack on Second Street in Old City. It went the storefront route in 2007 with its opening at 120 S. 18th St., near Rittenhouse Square. Two years later, Scott Hockfield added a liquor license in the 18th Street location; the accompanying TVs and beer turned it into a sports bar.
On 11th Street, where it faces Thomas Jefferson University, Wrap Shack has been rebranded subtly, picking up the logo “WS” to fancy it up. Scott Hockfield calls the look a “vintage sports bar.”
Decor features a “brick” wall behind the bar and comfy, upholstered seating both at the bar and also in a row of high-tops that faces the bar. There’s also banquette seating.
Tom Bury, the contractor from many Restaurant Impossible episodes, handled the interior work. The side wall features laser-etched wood panels depicting classic Philadelphia photos.
Menu is similar to 18th Street: mainly wraps, salads, and sandwiches, but also grilled wings and burgers. Full bar includes $10 cocktails ($7 at happy hour), 10 draft beers, two draft wines.
Early hours are 9 a.m. (to hit those Jeff workers coming off the night shift) till 1 a.m. weekdays, till 2 a.m. Friday and Saturday. There’s a 9-11 a.m. happy hour with 23-ounce lagers for $4.50 and well as cocktail specials.
