Xochi: Another taqueria for the Ambler area
Xochi (say it "so-chee") maintains Tamarindo's BYOB tradition of free margaritas and wine (one per person).
The Ambler area, home to Mexican restaurants both upscale and humble (Cantina Feliz, El Limon, El Cerrito), has a new taqueria.
This month, Xochi Modern Taqueria & More (36 W. Skippack Pike, 267-462-4481) filled the strip-mall space that previously was Tamarindo's, before that popular Mexican BYOB moved 10 minutes away to Flourtown - to name yet another local player.
Xochi (say it "so-chee"), maintaining Tamarindo's BYOB tradition of free margaritas and wine (one per person), teams up Antonio Sanchez and Mariangeli Saez. They met at a family-friendly Mexican chain restaurant in Exton, where he was general manager and she handled the marketing.
In a contemporary setting, Xochi mixes booths and tables, with a classic-rock sound track.
Menu is straight-ahead contemporary Mexican with a few international flourishes (note the ropa vieja tacos and Korean tacos); corn tortillas are made on the premises. Most dish prices top out at $12.
Hours are 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and 5 to 9 p.m. Sunday to Thursday, and till 10:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
