Would you hire Larry Mendte?
A grass-roots effort has sprung up to get Larry Mendte hired at a local TV station.
Would you hire Larry Mendte?
Michael Klein, Philly.com
"We, the undersigned, want to see Larry Mendte return to network news in Philadelphia," begins a petition on YouChoose.net, a site where folks can post petitions for various causes.
The goal of "Bring Back Larry Mendte" is to get the former CBS3 anchor hired again in his hometown. (That is, after he serves the six months' house arrest; he pleaded guilty last month to snooping on former coanchor Alycia Lane's e-mails and passing along the info to the gossip pages.)
This is more than a mere petition. The organizer, identified as a Marylander named Jeff J., set it up so that with one click, it e-mails a "hire him" message to news executives at CBS3, 6ABC, NBC10, Fox29 and Comcast.
As of this morning, two weeks after its creation, the petition had attracted 32 signatures.
Danno signed it 31 times so far mick314
These people (the 32) must be the same type as the 7% in IL who still like teh governor there. Paul B

mick34 - not true, Paul B - I'm not from IL, Freddie - sounds fair..kind of like penance?, Helen - Larry's too tall, Phazed - you forgot Wasilla, AK. I'm the guy who started the Petition and there are a number of folks who would like to see Larry back on the air. Regardless of what you think of his actions, you have to admit that did quite a lot for the region in terms of giving his time to charities, non-profits, etc. While his actions were undeniably very wrong & illegal, I give the guy kudos for standing up and taking it like a man instead of hiding behind carefully crafted press releases from an attorney or publicist and invoking 'deniability at all costs' like we see nowadays from so many public figures or attempting to rewrite history like Bush. I think the guy deserves a second chance. Granted he does not deserve absolution; that can only be earned, but I'd prefer to give him a chance to earn it rather than throwing him under the bus. jjj0923

Thanks JJJ. I'm signing up. The guy has done a lot for the area. I'm not sure oit will work. But I would watch him again, especially after all he has done for Alex's Lemonade Stand and Children with Cancer. Mae

Helen, there's a brief description at the bottom here: http://www.nationmaster.com/encyclopedia/Larry-Mendte but Larry was also instrumental in raising a lot of funds for the Charity establish in her name. Mae - thank you very much. jjj0923
I would hire him as my IT guy. misterpet
I'd be checking the signatures, like the ones from Mary Lendte, and Harry Bendte and Cary Rendte. Thet MIGHT be suspicious! esterrick
esterrick - This is Jeff the guy who started the Petition. I agree that Mary, Harry and Cary might sound suspicious, but it was Predo Muente and Osama Bin Mendte that really raised my eyebrows, but seriously - the campaign is gaining traction with more and more signatures every day. Thanks for the levity. Misterpet - would you really hire him as your IT Guy? I'm an IT guy and there's no way I'd hire a guy for an IT position who couldn't cover his tracks, Larry's a great News Anchor and he should stick to broadcasting. Leave IT to the professionals. Show your support and lets get Larry back on the air: http://www.youchoose.net/campaign/bring_back_larry_mendte - Merry Xmas & Happy Holidays! jjj0923
If anyone in Philadelphia hires that slug, they should have their heads examined. He has betrayed not only the trust of his co-workers but the people who trusted him explicitly, the people of Philadelphia. The guy should NEVER AGAIN work in Philadelphia as a newscaster. Stanley Levin
