Wiz Kid: V Street's casual side is coming to Rittenhouse

It will have a small menu - two or three sandwiches, plus a salad, assorted fries, a line of vegan ice creams, and draft wine and beer and what Rich Landau calls "funky ice tea" and lemonade.

Wiz Kid is the name of the fast-casual vegan shop that Rich Landau and Kate Jacoby hope to open this holiday season next door to their vegan street-fooder V Street (126 S. 19th St.).

They say Wiz Kid, taking over for the eyeglass store at 124 S. 19th St., will have a small menu - two or three sandwiches including signatures such as the Wiz Kid (mushroom steak sandwich with long hots and rutabaga wiz) and the KFT (Korean fried tempeh), plus a salad, assorted fries, a line of vegan ice creams, and draft wine and beer and what Landau calls "funky ice tea" and lemonade.

Wiz Kid will offer counter service plus a few seats for eating in. Landau and Jacoby will refocus V Street's current open kitchen into a noodle bar serving dandan and ramen.

In sum, the setup will loosely resemble Abe Fisher and Dizengoff's: sitdown restaurant on one side, fast-casual and takeout on the other.

Landau and Jacoby are joining the crowd of chef-owners moving into the fast-casual realm to attract customers who have limited time and budgets. Hours will be 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. or thereabouts, daily.

"Vedge is becoming so serious," Landau said of his crosstown flagship. "We just want to be chefs having fun. We opened V Street, thinking it would be a bar. It became a foodie place, too."

V Street will remain open during construction.
