Wishing Well in Bella Vista shuts down

The bar was sued for nearly $30,000 in back rent.

The luck has run out for the Wishing Well at Ninth and Catharine Streets in Bella Vista, which had been facing eviction since January, according to filings in Municipal Court.

In February, the owner of the building at 767 S. Ninth St., Bilton Ltd., was awarded a default judgment of $29,378.39 in back rent. Negotiations had led to modified rent. In later filings, the building owner contended that CM123 LLC. had not made good.

Chris Martin, who operated the bar, said the building was sold this year. He said he had paid back $25,000 of the judgment and was trying to work with the new building owner, who wouldn't hear of it and ordered the bar shut down immediately.

The bar took to Facebook on Monday to announce its closing after six years.

To our Friends, Neighbors and Patrons:

It is with great sadness that I announce The Wishing Well is permanently closed. I have put my heart and soul into this place over the past 6 years and it has been my great honor to serve each of you.

All of the laughs and cries we had along the way, the grand relationships we fostered and the small moments we shared, these memories will last a lifetime even if The Well will not.

I have done everything in my power to keep the drinks flowing, the food sizzling and the smiles coming for as long as possible. Though I have many regrets about our closing, I leave with a clear conscience and my eyes to the future.

I love you all.
