Last night saw two cooking competitions: Brewery Ommegang's Philly Hop Chef and E.A.T.S.
Nick Macri of Southwark turned up the heat at Union Transfer to win Hop Chef with Hennepin-cured coppa, pickled chilies, "ballpark" nuts, grains of Paradise bread crumbs, orange and coriander sauce. Macri will represent Philly in August in the main Hop Chef competition in Cooperstown, N.Y.
Marcie Turney of Barbuzzo, Lolita, etc. captured the top prize at Eat Along the Street, a benefit for a Thai orphanage and Philly's Children's Village, at Vie. Her Indian-spiced turkey kebab with Thai basil raita, fresh chickpea radish salad and Bibb lettuce wrap impressed judges. She won a commercial blender and an engraved knife.
Tim Spinner of Cantina Feliz and La Calaca Feliz won the people's choice award for his Kampachi Tacos served with Thai Esquites. Nomad Pizza won the popular vote for best truck.
